In today’s episode of Figuring Out, we have Prashant Desai in conversation with Raj Shamani. He is a longevity sherpa who has studied at Stanford School of Medicine and Harvard Medicine School. His insights on health and nutrition will break a lot of myths today.
In this episode, we talked about how undersleeping increases the chances of cancer, heart attacks, and Alzheimer’s. He talked about Dementia and Alzheimer's, and how sleeping helps in dealing with trauma and muscle recovery. He then talked about the role of sleeping in creativity and finding answers through inner voice. We talked about how much sleep different age groups require and the circadian rhythm in our sleeping patterns.
We also talked about the relationship between sleep deprivation and diabetes and how Alzheimer's is becoming one of the largest diseases globally. Towards the end, he shared his personal story of how he lost his brother and best friend due to heart disease. And ended with debunking myths around ghee, and vaping.
