"I can do all things in Him who strengtheneth me" (Phillipians 4:13). He who has the power to awaken this hunger in us for God's will, for justice, for sanctity has also the power to satisfy it even to satiety, and with this satiety we shall be blessed forever. Book: Divine Intimacy by Father Gabriel of St Mary Magdalene.

Always spot on, Nick. Agree 100%. Hope and trust in God in His Mercy and Love, a God who has plans for our good not evil, plans for a future and hope. Like the father in the parable of the Prodigal Son, He is always looking for us and when He finally sees us coming home when we stray in sin, He runs to meet us and embrace us. I am a proud Catholic.

Here is a pretty clear statement that Father Ripperger just made on salvation and religions that are outside of Catholicism:

People should study history, though, because the way that the Roman Catholic Church answered this question _for many centuries_ prior to the 20th Century was precisely the opposite. They taught that God was quick to hammer anyone who didn't submit to the wisdom and theology of Rome.

_Unam Sanctam_ said, “We declare, say, define, and pronounce that it is absolutely necessary for the salvation of every human creature to be subject to the Roman Pontiff.”

The Council of Florence’s papal bull, _Cantate Domino, _ says: “The sacrosanct Roman Church, founded by the voice of our Lord and Savior... firmly believes, professes, and proclaims that those not living within the Catholic Church, not only pagans, but also Jews and heretics and schismatics, cannot become participants in eternal life, but will depart ‘into everlasting fire which was prepared for the devil and his angels’ [Matt. 25:41], unless before the end of life the same have been added to the flock; and that the unity of the ecclesiastical body is so strong that _only to those remaining in it are the sacraments of the Church of benefit for salvation, _ and do fastings, almsgiving, and other functions of piety and exercises of Christian service produce eternal reward, and that no one, whatever almsgiving he has practiced, even if he has shed blood for the name of Christ, can be saved, unless he has remained in the bosom and unity of the Catholic Church.”

Cantate Domino says in effect that even those who receive non-RC baptism are unable to be saved, and even a non-Catholic who is martyred ("shed blood") for his faith in Christ cannot be saved.

Unam Sanctam and Cantate Domino were not outliers. They were typical of Rome's position throughout the middle ages. Anyone who dissented from Rome's view was officially considered a heretic, and headed to perdition.

If any Catholic thinks that this extreme position was wrong -- if one believes that non-Catholic Christians can be saved -- he should thank the Reformers for the Roman Catholic Church's changed position. Were it not for the Reformation, the RCC would never have had any impetus to reform itself. The RCC would still be selling indulgences, seizing non-Latin Bibles, and providing the Sacrament to the laity only once per year. If you appreciate your current Catholic faith, thank the Reformers!

(I think some of the Trads prefer the old stance, though!)

I started to watch Bp Barron the other day give a talk on Youtube and had to turn it off because I do not trust him. I become uncomfortable with how he explains divine nature. He talks out of both sides of his mouth. I think he's a fraud. For me, my internal alarm mechanism to discern good and evil kicks-in when I listen to churchmen. The Holy Spirit, I believe, directs my thoughts and paths. I mention this because I believe the light of Catholic teachings is very dim right now, particularly due to the Synodal Way and other attempts to water down doctrine. I don't know where we are headed, but my intuition says it's not a very good place.
