i'm not british, and the idea of 'fresh custard' casually sold in the supermarket is beyond me! lucky you!
next series idea: strange food item recipes.
i saw a bag of dried tiny fish in the spice isle in my local supermarket and on a whim got them because they were ridiculously cheap, but i've never been across a recipe that asked for them and now they're just sitting in my cupboard, leering at me with their tiny dead eyes.
so how about you try your hand at some of the food items we see a lot in the supermarket but never pick up because we don't quite know what it's used for?

Can you do a summer Christmas recipe for all your southern hemisphere friends:) for example seafood, or something with stone fruit?

Definitely gonna give the pear cranberry crumble a go at Christmas Eve. It looks amazing!!

Another really good hack is to add oats to the top of the crumble. Not only is it healthier, but the uncooked oats on the top become crispy, and the ones below soak up the fruit juices and become super yum!

The pear ginger crumble sounds the best. I make a pear/coconut milk yogurt cheese cake with candied ginger. I use ginger snaps for the crust.

In New Zealand our Christmas is at the start of summer so we go for salads and barbecue a lot but I am SO determined to do a traditional mid-winter Christmas in July! I love your Christmas recipes - a modern take on trad fare.

Last year I made Pannukakku for Christmas breakfast, and I think this year I'm going to try Finnish pinwheel looking holiday cookies I saw my Finnish cousin talking about last year. I think they had a fig or date jam in the middle? Trying Finnish dishes at the holidays makes me feel like I'm injecting part of myself into times spent with my fiancé ' s family with their very solidified holiday traditions. My family is scattered and it's hard to get together. I didn't grow up with a lot of Finnish culture, but my dad got a lot from his aunts and uncles, and I always felt like I missed out on that part of myself.

I am a sucker for crumbles! The crispy biscuit crumble combined with the soft fruitiness of the fruit base is just beautiful. When you mix in vanilla custard with this, it just turns into a gift sent from heaven.

These all look good, but your recipe for a baileys yule log has become a favourite at our house and I'm afraid if I'd make anything else I'd have an uprising on my hands.

I would have left the pastry out of the icecream and served it in the pastry cases, quick simple and looks delicious. Can't wait to get cooking 😊

Our traditional Christmas cake is sponge made with hazelnut flour, layers split and drizzled with orange juice, filled with chocolate mousse and raspberries, then enrobed in dark chocolate ganache. Despite all the rich ingredients, it's not heavy. You may even have room for a second slice 😉

For Canadians it's gotta be a good homemade butter tart. I don't know if it's especially Christmasy, but it's the only time of the year we ever make them in my family.

My favourite low-budget christmas dessert: Self-made potato noodles with sweetened ground poppy seeds in butter...and stewed plums with winter spices.
