Have an 8700k paired with a 3070 at 1440p. Works great 👍🏻

Get the gpu that performs with the fps at the resolution you want. Everyl high end gpu out will work well with 8700k. If you want more cpu, like you need 8 instead of 6 cores, you can pick up a 9700k cheap, go 9900k if you feel you need hyper threading

I have to disagree with Jason's opinion on this (which I rarely do). Got an 8700k and a 1440p 165 Hz gsync monitor (and a secondary 1080p monitor). Had a 1080 Ti, sold it and got a 3080 ftw3 ultra. Absolutely great performance, high framerates (120+) and no stutters at all, any game I throw at it. 1440p (and above) put more stress on the gpu than cpu, and 6c/12t cpus are still great for that scenario. Will I upgrade? Probably sooner than later, but living in a third world full of taxes country doesn't help at all, so upgrades must be chosen carefully.

8700k pairs perfrctly well with a 3080 at 1440p.

I paired an i7-8700k with my 3080 & 32GB RAM - and have had no issues with bottlenecking when gaming - running on a 49" CRG9 monitor (5120 x 1440) - seems to be mostly GPU bound. I had an i9-9900k previously, and can't see much difference. I stream netflix / browse on a seperate 15" portable monitor below my main display, but not much else really.

Strange, i saw hardware unboxed video of the 8700k in 2020 recently and saw the i7 8700k @ 5ghz pushing the same numbers as the 10900k even at 1080p

6 cores still feels good for me, granted I don't multi task as much when gaming;)

I am using an i7-8700k (set @ 4.7 all core I believe) with 32 GB RAM and 1080ti paired with a 1440p 144hz (overclockable to 165hz). I am really happy with this system. I play lots of overwatch now, which I realize isn't hard to run (my r7 4700u laptop manages it), but I used to play loads of Destiny 2 which is quite a bit harder to run. Also play Forza Horizon 4, Need for Speed (last 4 games), Horizon Zero Dawn. Even these look amazing on my PC.

Sooner or later I'll try to upgrade to a 30 series gpu (maybe 40 series by the time I can get one). About the only thing I think could have been better is to have a core 9000 series cpu for the soldered ihs. My motherboard supports up to an i9 9900k so I guess if I ever find a 9900k or 9700k used for cheap I could upgrade that.

I really wanted to play Cyberpunk, but with the way things have gone, I think I will wait another year and see if they have fixed anything. Maybe try out a "free" copy first before buying on a deeply discounted sale.

Pairing a 8700k with a 3080. I still think it is not worth upgrading to anything. I am playing Warzone in 1440p.

I’m running a 3080ti with my 8700k and 64gb of ddr4. So far it’s glorious.

I'm running my I7-8700 on a Z390 with my RTX 3060 ti and it's awesome. Still waiting for those I9-9900K prices to drop a bit more. 😎

This is some bad advice. Their are plenty of videos on YouTube showing an 8700k Vs 10700k paired with a 3080 and the difference is negligible at best.

Using 8700K @ 5.0Ghz with 3080TI Works great!!!

Absolutely, use case is everything. Somebody asked in Thursday's livestream if he should upgrade the 5600 XT as he plays at 1440p. The obvious answer is yes, as the 5600 XT targets 1080p and only has 6GB VRAM which isn't really enough. But if he's playing yesterdays games and the card does what he needs it to do, then he might be fine with his current card.

About what they said with the 2070 Super, I have a non-K i7-8700, I run it with a 2070 Super, and have found that most games bring BOTH CPU and GPU up to near 100%

i still use an 8700k today and have a 3080.. I only upgrade from 1080 because of the insane performance jump.
