Welcome To My Channel Molly Pelletier, MS, RD | Acid Reflux Dietitian

I’m Molly, a gut health specialized registered dietitian who knows firsthand how painful and frustrating acid reflux and IBS can be. I struggled with severe GERD and IBS symptoms for years, until I had a food poisoning event that made everything worse. I was given PPIs by my doctor, but they stopped working after a while. I realized that I had to find a natural way to heal my gut and my nervous system. In this video, I share my story of how I beat acid reflux and IBS naturally in 2 years, using a combination of nutrition, lifestyle, and stress management techniques. I also show you how you can access my app FLORA, where I give you the exact protocol I used to heal my gut and my mind.

💠 My Story.
When I was an undergrad nutrition student at Boston University, my digestive health issues were at their worst. I remember standing in the grocery store re-reading the label on a box of crackers, filled with overwhelm and confusion. I felt totally lost as to what to eat or how to eat due to my digestive issues. After dozens of doctor appointments, ER visits, and medical tests, my anxiety was at an all-time high and my list of “safe foods” was dwindling every day. When my doctors were at a loss for advice and my condition was not improving - I knew I needed to take my healing into my own hands.

When I finally realized that my mind and gut were connected - everything changed. I prioritized self-care and mindfulness practices in order to pull myself out of constant “fight or flight mode”. Instead of restricting, I started nourishing my gut and living my life again. Much to my surprise, my digestive system responded and began to heal. Through the power of individualized nutrition and lifestyle changes, my health (and my life) transformed.

Fast forward to today - I’m a Gut Health Registered Dietitian and recovered from severe IBS/GERD. My approach to nutrition counseling is rooted in science and built on the foundation that everyone has unique nutrition and lifestyle needs. It’s my mission (and greatest joy) to help you discover your root causes of imbalance, and share with you evidence-based, integrative wellness tools - so you too can heal your gut, repair your relationship with food, and live your absolute best life.

My gerd was definitely related to my anxiety. 3 years ago I dedicated my life to the Lord and I cut alcohol, birth control, fast food, etc. I started caring for my spiritual life and that reflected in my outer physical body tremendously. Exercising as well.I started a prayer lifestyle which helped me with my stress and anxiety.

I'm crying right now. This has been so isolating and lonely. I was diagnosed with GERD last year and put on so many different meds. They help but I don't want to take meds forever. The GI doctor says this can never heal but I can reduce symptoms, and I never believed that to be true. I'm glad I came across your video because now I have a glimmer of hope. Thank you for dedicating yourself to this work so that people like me can find hope again and heal.

I learned Acid reflex is directly related to stress so I need to remain calm.

Wonderful that you have healed your GERD! One thing to explore that led to the cure for my GERD was low stomach acid. The valve at the top of your stomach won't close if acid is too low. It was easy to discover by doing an easy test on an empty stomach: drink 4 oz of water with 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda. As stomach acid turns the baking soda neutral it produces gas. If you don't burp, you likely have low stomach acid. Low acid can be treated by supplementing during meals with Betaine HCL. Finding the right dose of Betaine HCL (OTC) to take with meals completely relieved my symptoms and is helping to let my body heal and resume adequate acid production. I'm hoping to eventually wean off. Lots of causes of low acid (hypothyroid, vitamin deficient, high stress, etc). Is this something that you explore with patients?

Same here. Got serious reflux issue 6 years ago and endoscopy found nothing but excessive acid. Was out on PPI for 6 years and got IBS and lost tons of weight. Finally, I regulated my stress, found a really accupuncture doctor, and ready to heal. Now I am struggling with quitting the pills. Trying to search for all kinds of advices. I guess everyone is different. DGL and enzymes helps, but apple cider vinegar makes it worse. No eating 3 hours before bed helps, change to decaf helps, and sleep in an elevated position helps. Another thing I found helping is core training and muscle strengthening. Somehow doing core exercises relief the occasional heart burn for me. Now I am only taking 1/4 of the original omeprazole dose, and I will try to cut all soon. My IBS is almost gone already, which confirms that it was actually cause by the PPI. Hope everyone gets well soon!

I have been through GERD for over 2 years myself and I also tried many... many... things just like you. Listening to your video is like unpacking all of the key insights learned (in the hard way). I wish i learned from your video 2-3 years ago. Things that eventually work for me is the smaller but constant meals before getting too hungry e.g. ready digestive friendly snacks at home, use licorice root to coat our oesophagus before meals (usually before dinner works best for me), use ginger root to reduce bloat (if the occasional bloat happens), use betaine hydrochlorine digestive enzyme to handle difficult to digest foods (sometimes we have no choice but to eat those foods), daily probiotics to ensure our digestive function is in tip-top condition. Be mindful of the right posture (prevent hunching) plus finding the right sleeping position (i put small thin pillow below my lower back) including simple breathing techniques (deep breath) when Acid reflux flare up to calm our mind. I also learned that adding anti inflammatory foods into our meals such as cabbage, high glutamine red meat like beef prevent the bloat and acid reflux though it might not be possible to plan everyday. I have felt a a lot better now with occasional flare up only most commonly due to work stress/ too tired and aftermath of flu sickness. I guess we cant remove this condition completely as we are bound to change our routines due to work, family and lifestyle commitments but we are more prepared to deal with it when things go bad and rise above it : )

I'm crying right now, this is me everyday, all these symptoms and I am so stressed because of my lifestyle. I have pots syndrome and my electrolytes keep making my acid worse so I Google what electrolytes do not cause GERD flare ups and I found you. I'm not even eating anymore because I'm afraid to even eat anymore. The shortness of breath, my sinus, I'm so miserable. I'm glad I found your page.

I have been dealing with this for 5 years, start with an elimination diet of known triggers - diary, caffeine, alcohol, sugar and gluten. Let your digestive system heal for at least a month. If your symptoms improve then bring them back back one at a time for 2 weeks to see if symptoms return, then eliminate the culprit.. I agree stress is a huge component, yoga, walks in nature, cut out toxic people, meditation. The good result is weight loss from all those grain foods (carbs), eating whole foods nothing ultra processed and exercise.

Caffeine was a big trigger for me. My heart burn was different than most; it feels like I am having a heart attack, a lot of pressure in the front chest and my back. Doctor checked me out, said gerd and gave me ppi’s. Took briefly, stopped and the heartburn came back. But because of dementia risk I requested something else and now on H2 blocker which makes it tolerable. Thanks for these tips to try! Glad there is hope 😊

STRESS without doubt is the main contributory factor! Stress is, sadly, a pandemic today, is it any wonder? I have a hiatus hernia for 15 years, on no meds, never a problem; now, pain, gerd, post nasal drip...everything! It's STRESS causing everything! Yes, of course have a good diet but please bear in mind to address the stress in your life.

Not easy, but it has to be done! I try hard to laugh at myself, don't take life too seriously, no one is getting out alive!. Watch comedies, turn off all news, be kind to yourself and others, be around children and pets, turn off all news, oops did I already mention that? VISUALISATION a must!
Listen to YouTube meditation videos, healing videos, biannual beats...all really helpful.
Molly's advice is great so well worth making notes.
My prayers are with you all beautiful souls...you've got this!!!

I am watching this video for the first time in April 2024 and THANK YOU for creating it! I have just recently started having severe heartburn and some reflux in the last month. My mom had GURD very bad for years, but this is the first time I have had it as bad as she did. Your video gives me hope that I can take control of this and heal myself.
