This video is insanely good. I suppose I still do the FMS at the beginning but I do it just to get them talking about their previous orthopedic stuff because a lot of times they won’t actually tell you everything at first when you ask. That being said I suppose I could do that with any screen for the purpose of getting them moving and talking.
There are people in the FMS community who are super dogmatic.
I like I’ll touch on the needs analysis. If someone Has neuropathy and you’re trying to help them build strength then there’s no need to give them a lecture about how you can’t fire a canoe out of a cannon. Perhaps a machine would be OK for that person.
Do you think the problem with the FMS is that it’s on a 1 to 3 scale which makes it hard to show improvement? You mentioned it working about half the time. What is working you know. I suppose working is showing improvement over time, but the FMS people will say that their test works regardless because it always prevents injury even if it doesn’t show it which is sometimes hard to argue with.
I re-wrote the FMS on a one through five scale instead of one through three which can perhaps show more improvement.
Im glad that you are making a video saying that not every single person needs to do an over the head squat analysis first thing.. because I feel like most places will tell you that every single person needs to do the FMS, and be thusly progressed based off that alone and that it is the be all end all of their health and fitness progression.
