From presuming your lack of sight means you have other superhero powers (a la Daredevil), to receiving an instant apology when people have dared to say "see you later"...

There are certain things that you really shouldn't say to a blind person - and others that you might be surprised to find are completely acceptable.

If a person's been blind all their lives, it's scary to think of what life would be like if they could see.

Years ago my younger sister had a very good friend who was born blind.. she had 100% sight loss, she could just about tell if someone shone a light in her face but she couldn't see shapes, shadows, colours etc.. She went to a boarding school from an early age and was totally independent. She used to come to our house for sleepovers and loved movies. We would watch the same one over and over and for the first time we ran the movie me and my sister would describe what was happening.

She would always used terms like "I've seen that one" or "Can we watch a film?" She'd never say.. "I've heard that one.."

I've also had a couple of blind friends that have enough vision to get around fine in their own homes...

i think what people mean by "you don't look blind" is that you don't behave like you can't see. you move your eyes, your head, use gestures and all that, blind people in movies usually stand still.
