"It's the most wonderful time of the year... for you."

There are plenty of people who don't celebrate Christmas - some because of religious beliefs, others because they simply don't like the festive season. Whatever the reason, if you are one of the people who doesn't get a tree, doesn't listen to Mariah on a loop and, no, doesn't worry about "missing out on Christmas dinner," you might be able to relate to these annoying questions and statements directed your way at this time of year.

I don’t celebrate Christmas and one time someone was like “ohh did you have a traumatic experience on Christmas Day so you don’t celebrate it anymore?!?” And I was just like wtf no?

My friend once said to me "You don't celebrate Christmas? I feel so bad for you!"

So I said, "You don't celebrate Hanukkah? I feel so bad for you!"

The thing about the Christmas trees though is that a lot of people grow them specifically to sell. They're not just going to a random forest and snagging the trees.

The tree thing is misunderstood. Christmas trees come from Christmas tree farms... they replant after they cut down. If they were not purchased enough to support the tree farmers, they'd cut and chip the last harvest of trees and wouldn't replant.

I understand them asking to respect those who don’t celebrate Christmas completely, but I don’t understand why they can then make snap judgements that Christmas is all about gifts and money ? For many, both religious and non religious, Christmas is about so much more than just presents

I don't think atheists celebrate because of the gifts and the money. It's because of the coziness and the feeling of community in the darkest time of the year. That's the reason people with other religions celebrate it too, they're not confused?

When I first moved out on my own, I was setting up a Christmas tree with tears rolling down my face and seriously considering using the razor in the box cutter. I sat down and remembered I had made a promise to myself one Christmas when I was a kid; I would never celebrate it once I had the option. Well, I finally had the option. I packed up the tree, sent the ornaments to my family, shut off the radio and TV, returned every card and gift that came in, and took control of my life and mental health.
It was the best thing I ever could have done for myself.
It took time for people to understand it wasn't a phase or a political or religious stance. I just hate this time of year and have no good memories of it. I remember rude crowds, crying children, stressed parents, drunk drivers, non-stop christmas music Everywhere, bell ringers supporting a charity with the highest paid CEO on the planet, high electric bills, stress, stress, stress...

I stopped this chaos in my life over thirty years ago and have never missed a single part of it. When I see a gift for a friend during the year, I get it and gift it then; the same with cards. I don't save up those thoughts and things for one day a year. I don't go to christmas parties, I don't eat out until the restaurants pack away the season. I wish people Happy Holidays starting late October - a gutsy thing to do in the American South.
Instead, I read, I write, I do my artwork, I meet friends at the beach and offer condolences for their holiday stresses.

Don't pity those who have chosen not to ride the merry-go-round of madness. Pity the people who desperately want to get off of it, but can't.

One thing that makes me mad instantly is when ppl ask if you don't celebrate christmas "even a little bit"???? as if non-Christians just celebrate a diet version of christmas. when I say I don't celebrate at all because it's not my religion ppl get confused because apparently they can't grasp the concept of different belief systems

I really like having some cosy time, good food and lights during the middle of winter. You know, a little bit of glitter in the grey. I just celebrate the solstice.

Christmas has nothing to do with Christ. There’s actually a lot of scripture that goes against celebrating Christmas.

fun fact most christian traditions for christmas are actually pagan traditions and have more to do with yule celebrations than christ's birth
if anything, a lot of christians engaging in pagan celebrations is what looks weird
