I'm an only child, and I would like to add an another segment here: oral exams. I'm not a native English speaker, so I take English oral exams every year, and every darn year I get a question like "Tell me something about your siblings?" or "Describe your brother in a few sentences"...

What Being an only child is like (for me) :
-having the pressure you won’t do good for your parents
-having to ‘continue the family history’
-if your fail at literally anything related to your future you feel like you aren’t good enough
-being isolated most of the day
-don’t have anyone to talk to about things
-don’t have many friends
-listen to music to cancel out the silence
- being really shy around new people but classed as “clingy and annoying “ when you get close to someone
-being lgbt and feel like you’ve disappointed the whole entire family
- don’t want kids but feel bad because the family won’t continue on by blood
-when you tell people you want a sibling they pretty much always say “no you don’t”

That’s pretty much it folks. :)

Asking someone if their parents couldn't have anymore kids is completely ignorant and disrespectful. That's literally asking for a throat punch. Don't disrespect someones parents like that.

As an only child, people really disrespect you. Those stereo types of "can't share" or "super spoiled" just haunt you! For me, it's almost the opposite. I love sharing things, because it makes me feel like people are actually interested in me and what I'm doing. I was never spoiled at all, and I never saw my parents because they would always work. I'm just plain lonely. I would DIE to have a sibling. So can y'all just say nice things? Just because you are an only child, doesn't mean you have a bitchy attitude or aren't used to sharing ect.

Yeah it’s so fun being the only child.

- you are often very socially awkward.
- you don’t interact with kids your age that often.
- if you don’t have any friends, you don’t interact with anyone at all but your parents.
- if you have a bad relationship with your parents, you’re mostly just alone like me.
- other people are going to think you’re so lucky because you get spoiled so much and get all the “attention.”
- you can’t look up to anyone.
- you don’t have an older sibling to ask for advice from.
- you don’t have a younger sibling to be a role model to.
- the lack of human interaction will make it hard for you to handle social situations.
- you’re never surrounded by kids your age.
