Growing up tough shows you how to be grateful for the little things when life improves.

When you don't learn what conditioner is until you 20.
When you still use store brand bar soap as a "3 in 1"

I was living in a very small house but my parents worked very hard for years and we got to move when I was 8 in a big house and this one room alone is about the size as my old house they even put a trampoline inside the living room with a mini basketball hoop on the indoor balcony I’m very greatful

I used to live in a single-room home in Asia, and all of my family would be sleeping, eating, and living in the same one-room establishment. Thankfully I'm doing much much better now, but growing up needy taught me a ton of stuff 🙏

Sharing a bed room with two brothers, getting hand me downs, using water in the shampoo bottle, never having hot water, mom making food to last a week, and only getting new stuff during christmas. Plus so much more. Yeah i grew up poor. A window unit for ac in the summer and wood burner for winter. You really dont notice that shit either as a kid. I assumed all families went out into the woods to chop fire wood during the summer. Whats really sad is i had a friend later in life tell me we were considered rich. That means other people around me had it much worse than I did.

Even not poor, putting water in soap, shampoos, etc is still a thing for me. You can run the same soap for so long

We have an odd Christmas tradition at my house. Every Christmas we would get canned food in our stocking. As a child I thought it was just my parents getting us stuff they knew we liked. Reality was that they felt terrible that they did not have the money to shower us with gifts. We still were happy to unopen all the food and the few small gifts our parents could afford. Even though we are in a better place, we all still put canned food in the stockings for the next generation.

Lmao, i was hoping you include you watched PBS kids during the week for csrtoons and had to wait until the weekend to watch shows besides arthur, dragon tails and sesame street.

Also, the low quality birthday gifts and the only time you got stuff was around tax refund time.

I grew up poor but im so greatful for it, i know my mom did her best and as an adult i show alot more gratitude for things and i show more empathy for others.

I’m glad he acknowledged the smoke alarm, considering it’s always been in his voice over audio lmao

Being poor it's an unique experience.
On the one hand, it sucks and get your mood low constantly,
On the other, you make most beautiful memories out of handling poorness by most of the smartass solutions that makes a basis for a good story to tell your beer pals.
