This works yes but the whole goal of this is to teach the dog you don’t want your hand in it’s mouth so it’s far more effective to just stop fussing and give a correction every time the puppy bites

Completely works. My stubborn little Chihuahua was a little savage with the biting. Now we have an understanding of when it's ok to treat me like another dog and "bite". Which makes him quite happy now.

What also works is push gently the lips/skin in the back of the mouth inside, so when the puppy bites your fingers, the pup will bite his own lips too.
Which is of course something they don't like. Takes a couple of times, but they learn to bite more gentle, since it would hurt themselves. And finally they learn to avoid that situation altogether haha.
But don't do it when the Puppy is so uncontrolled that it would bite itself bloody. Obviously.
And do bite inhibition training. So they know how hard they can and are allowed to "bite" someone. Just be prepared for some scratches when they still have their baby teeth.
It helps so much when they know how hard is too hard. Trust me. (or trust almost every dog trainer saying the same)

I watched mother dog teach her pups not to bite her and copied her technique. grasp the pup's muzzle and give a low growl. Worked well her and for me.
Mother dog's aren't all that gentle with the pup's after 6 weeks. I bet that pup stopped biting its mother well before any human intervention.

Just let out a yelp, the dog will quickly learn to stop mouthing you. Simple and no discomfort for the dog. Worked with both my rottweilers.

Didn't work with my gsd. Any body else dealing with an excessively mouthy shepherd who's very unpleasant to just hang out with because he absolutely does not stop mouthing, chewing and biting everything? Nothing works I tell you. Help please he's 6 months old and a piranha 🙏

Properly explain how to do this? When the dog starts mouthing you, you push down gently on his tongue. They stop biting you. Work with them as puppies so they don’t turn into biting adults. They like to bite harder. I have a GSD that has a mouthing / biting habit. He has bitten me very hard and aggressively as in an attack. I grabbed his tongue! You should have seen the surprise on his face -😂I am still working on the dog he’s been through four homes. I hope he does stop, biting. They say they will euthanize him
So I have to make this work. Thank you so much for the tip. It’s pretty self-explanatory. I do get some funny looks from him. When I touch his tongue, he shows teeth. I touch his tail but also verbal commands can stop this. You could say no bite. You could simply say no or ACCHH! But my dog is beyond that and I will try this. Thanks for the tip. I have trained some dogs with a spray bottle of water put it on stream and squirt them. If they are doing some thing you don’t like they don’t know it’s you unless they see you. Good luck. Thanks for the tip.
