How To Slip Punches Like Mike Tyson

Welcome to The Peekaboo Boxing Academy! My name’s Carter, I train fighters at Cus D’amato’s Gym in Catskill, NY.

In today’s video, we’re going to go over how to slip straight punches — these are just the basics. But without these basics, forget about moving onto any of the advanced head movement that you see Mike Tyson doing.

Start with the basics, implement them into your low-level sparring, then master them over a set period of time.

By using the slip bag, doing drills that make you move your head, moving your head on the heavy bag and the willie bag — you will condition yourself to move your head like no other fighter.

[Disclaimer: The Peekaboo Boxing Academy and Cus D’amato’s KO Boxing Gym are separate entities and are not to be confused as the same thing. I am simply wearing the shirt to promote the gym]

I have been looking for someone who taught the peekaboo boxing style with this amount of understanding for years. Thank you so much for teaching the basics and the nuances of the style.

Thanks for this channel. My nephew wants to be a boxer. I was a boxer and my son was a boxer.
I was also a Judoka & Jiujitsu grappler.
In the late 90s met a Leung Ting Wing Tsun sifu named Keith Fain in Clarksville TN who rag dolled me when we touched hands so became his student. I still taught boxing and grappling but for self defense relied upon Keith Fain Wing Tsun KunFa.
My nephew wants to learn peek-a-boo boxing so I've sent him your channel. You're a good teacher.
Thank you.

That's crazy, your fighters, had mo experience, but those slips and jabs were not bad, and they moved really well, right now i somehow made a slip bag for myself using a boxing glove and a Lace, , and also made a double end bag, I practice anti flinching moves on double end bag and counter punches, i got comfortable with the slip bag after doing left right left right duck, did that so many times, and now i do something unpredictable, and use one of Mike's best and simple combos, which is when he ducks under jab and comes up with left hook, but mostly i do slip. Jabs and regular jabs, finally improved the jab to the level where i automatically extended, even of i tried to fail it wouldn't happen, the most important part for me in sparing was to forget about my stance in sense of stop thinking about the feet placement, the more i practice the Stance, the less I think of it, and the better are movements, thank you Carter, i believe you will raise world champions, you have the passion and the experience

This has been really helpful, one of the coaches in a gym i used to go to said that my body type suits this style but i couldn't find any video on here that taught the basics on it, glad i found this, will begin to practice this on and on once i make my own slip bag

These videos are awesome man! It’s so great seeing new faces on YouTube teaching classic styles. I’ve been watching a Soviet coach (Alexey Frolov) and his popularity is exploding right now. I hope the same happens for you

I am undersized heavyweight. 6, 0 ft and 102 kg. But suprisingly I am fast for that weight, im not overweight. And Ive found that only peek a boo style work for me. Usually heavyweight figters are super tall or they are punchers. But with peek a boo I can easily cut distance and work in inside position. Work on your strengths, always. Peek a boo isnt the best styyle because its exhausting and its harder to move head all the time rather than stay by your guard and work with long jabs. But its suitable for shorter guys

Guys, I don't know if he said this because I haven't watched the video in a while but I found out that if your stance is imperfect in almost anyway, you won't be able to slip from the waste properly. I had my back foot angled too much (a little more than 45 degrees (probably like 50-55)) and that really screwed me up for a while.
