Superman famously died at the hands of Doomsday in the 90s. With Doomsday's appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, I wanted to tackle a theory about the Man of Steel. Did Superman die in the comics without anyone noticing? And was he replaced by a clone made of sand?! It sounds crazy, but is it true?

Every Wednesday, Comic Misconceptions explores the incredible stories, fascinating ideas, and mind-blowing theories regarding comic books and the rich history and culture that surrounds them!

I remember that in "Life After Death", after the Jonathan Kent experience close to death, and after the supermen arrived, Lois and another guy opens the Superman's coffin to clarify what's happening and they discover that the coffin it's empty.
So, the theory that brainiac was a change in the original storyline and the hallucination of SUperman's body in the coffin was supposed to be the real Superman body doesn't have support.

This also sounds a LOT like the beginning of the superior Spider-Man story line where Otto Octavius switches minds with Peter Parker and then eventually adopts all of his morals and memories. I think it was marvels way of re-doing the clone saga so I think we came full circle.

OK, but why did Superman bleed in Death of Superman? He would've bled sand or dirt, not ACTUAL blood.

Eating lead is a horrible idea !!!
If something bad would have happened to Superman's body (e.g a parasite), would Superman have a really bad time, identifying the problem. Since he can't use his X Ray-vision too scan his digestive system, since it would be filled with small pieces of lead.

The lead could also be the reason behind why Superman have a hard time absorbing sunlight, since lead doesn't only block out ionising radiation (Radioactive kryptonite) but also non ionising radiation (sunlight).

This is extra bad news, since Superman would be so weakened by the lack of sunlight, that the lead would become poisonous. Lead poison symptoms include: Headache,
memory loss, joint pains, muscle pain, high blood pressure, learning difficulties, hearing loss, sluggishness and fatigue.

What if the sand guy was actually the one that was killed by doomsday and he stayed dead and the superman that woke up from the coma thing actually died from the sand creature

When I was 6 years old, me and my family went to visit one of my father's uncles. During the visit I found a rather large hard-cover book of older Superman stories. One of the stories involved Superman dying multiple times(I think it was clones but this was over 30 years ago so details are fuzzy)

haha, Batman very Superman. Whatever happened to "vs." as a thing? My son made a joke that it was Batman Visits Superman. Batman: Hey Supes, what's up? Superman: Hiya Bats, good to see ya!
