I’m often struck by the caliber of people that the church is losing. Literally the cream of the crop and Kate is probably the best example I’ve seen of this in a really long time. Incredible episode. I hope she starts making the rounds like Kolby has been doing. Not just insider info but incredibly insightful and thoughtful.

The way her family tried to infiltrate this video says SO MUCH about what she’s been through and that lovely Mormon behavior of completely ignoring boundaries—so proud of how she handled it!!

16:30. Is Kate actually implying that alleviating human suffering is more important than paying 10% to repeatedly drag our own well-fed butts over to that $200 million temple to sit through mind-numbing covenant rinse-and-repeats to get our own 1st class kingdom? What a concept!

Having gone through 2 bishops disciplinary councils- more than a decade apart, and having the minutes of the meeting brought up from the FIRST meeting during the second meeting; that was a huge ah ha moment for me, and when my shelf first cracked. God may forgive and forget, but the corporation certainly does not. That's when my deconstruction began.

I felt her discomfort with the first brother’s comment, and I’m glad she said something with the second brother. I’m estranged from my family too, and the way they decided to reach out NOW reminds me of something my own family would do.

2:27:11 juggling the whole truth of things in your head and trying to figure out what to say really is a Mormon experience, this is the truth. I remember being a brand new missionary and my trainer getting after me after saying to a black woman on her front porch “technically black people weren’t allowed to hold the priesthood until 1978, they could join the church though.” She didn’t like that answer, and my trainer basically reprimanded me for telling the whole truth.

11:30: How wonderful it is that Kate’s natural compassionate response to human suffering was what sparked her motivation to question and think critically about M’ism. Just the opposite of it’s old closed-minded trope about people “just wanting to sin.”

I needed to hear this. Sometimes I wonder if the church is really that bad. Yeah. It is. Truth!

Kate, your interview was amazing! Thank you for having the courage to speak your truth! Your interview also brings to light an important issue. How many women are struggling with the "gospel" and don't know what to do about it. Many of your stories struck a cord in my heart!! I too have been witness to unscrupulous members/leaders actions. Especially when it comes to money.

I am a BUC, ex-Mo by about 18+ years now. I left the church when it was NOT a popular thing to do. And in fact, thought I might lose my marriage over it. I am also a licensed SSW in the state of Utah and have noticed so many young women struggling with their faith. Maybe not ready to leave, but asking big questions that they feel they can't ask without some repercussion.
I looked for Utah services for people leaving/questioning their religion and didn't find much. Therapy was the biggest go-to. There is more available for the LGBTQ+ community than there is for struggling Mormon (any religious affiliation really) women. I watched your interview and asked myself, what could I do to help these women? What would have, or did help you?
(A women's group of other similar-minded women, a retreat to learn how to deal with what you're feeling and how to talk to others about it, or an online forum specifically for Mormon women struggling with their faith? There are so many avenues I can think of:)

I'm also sorry for the family drama that unwittingly got aired. I thought you handled it very well:) Without sharing details, know you're not alone💕

I used to work making commercials for the church. The whole process really peeled back the curtain.

You don't need the church to fix you if you aren't broken.

I worked with a very self righteous Mormon in Provo. I remember him telling us a in the break room about how he had to spy on members to find out if they were “living in sin”. It gave me KGB vibes.
