A secret handshake to get into heaven is so goofy

I love how, despite being a good person, not doing the correct handshake can void your opportunity of achieving eternal glory and happiness

As a former active Member of this religion, i can back up everything she says as being true, after hearing other members talk about the most comforting feeling going through the temple, when i finally went, that was the most uncomfortable feeling i ever felt in my life, and its exactly what she says, i felt lied to for my entire life and it made me feel like i was part of a cult

Religious abuse is a heavy burden to shake off. Always be kind to young JW or Mormon solicitors when face to face with them. They’re not just told that the outside world is full of “bad people, ” but that we wouldn’t accept them. Don’t reinforce the abuse by being a jerk. In order to escape that belief system they would need to find a safe place among us- so represent that safety when you can. ❤

You know, as terrible as the internet is, at least the internet and social media shines a brighter light on shit like this.

Joseph Smith joined Free Masonry long before starting a "church". My family has robes, books and paraphernalia from various past Free Masons, including my great grandfather. I was amazed to see all the garments, handshakes, symbols, and initiation practices in Mormonism, as they mirrored those of Masonry. Joseph took everything from Free Masonry and added prayers.
The LDS church is a cult based on masonry. There is nothing holy about the garments, Temple rituals or tithe paying, which Joe saw as a way to enrich himself. It is such a relief to see it haemorrhaging members. Just an online search exposes the truth. Parents ought never force their children to participate in that damaging cult. Joseph didn't foresee the arrival of computers.

My ex-husband grew up in a morman household. He separated from the "church" when he was 16. His older brother kept giving them our address and phone #. They hounded us for YEARS! He finally had to petition the "church" to be removed from their official roles. I told my BIL that if he gave them our information again, he would not be welcome in our home anymore.

Major props to you for being able to wear that and be okay. I have nightmares about that veil and more specifically that one will be placed over my face forever when I die. Glad my kids will never go through any of this.

My father was an EMT and according to legend, he was trying to save a guy who’d been in a terrible accident. The man panicked when my father whipped out the scissors to cut off his clothing, yelling things like how his “holy undergarments” were going to keep him from harm. Dad deadpan just “must be defective” and cut through so they could treat the wounds 😂

Yep, glad I bailed when I was 19. Missed out on this and serving a mission. Still no regrets all these years later.

I am not mormon, but grew up with Mormons in SLC and still have ptsd about how I was treated by peers and their parents. Thank you for exposing this ridiculous cult.

My parents were sealed in the Salt Lake temple. I was put through a weird pre-seal ceremony with other children who were being sealed with their parents. We were put in a windowless room and the lights were turned off and the door was closed. I don't even want to know what that was all about.

the biggest betrayal to me was when we promised all our 'time talents and resources', it was to the church, not to god. that never sat well with me no matter how hard i rationalized.

Secret handshakes sound less like religious teachings and more like a secret society.
