If you need the bonnet wear the bonnet and ignore this woman

Fun fact: The bonnet is not just to keep the curly hair under control. If you wear a bonnet to sleep, your hair will be less damaged.

No black woman would ever say it’s racist or cultural appropriation to wear a bonnet. Curly, frizzy, long, short, or straight hair—Wear the bonnet!

Bonnets have been worn by many cultures. I remember white women in the 60s wore them at night to keep their hair set.

I've learned to appreciate things that get people I don't care to associate with to not want to associate with me either. 😂

Growing up my hair was so untamable that it took my mom & grandma 4 hours to brush it out (wet or dry) & it broke every damn brush, comb & all hair tools they could get their hands on.
Now almost 30 & 10 years of using alternative products that actually coordinate with my hair type & all I need is get hair or brush damp & go at it for 10 to 20 minutes & done.

Imagine if Dre had decided that Eminem was culturally appropriating rap instead of signing him.

A lot of dermatologist recommend sleeping in a bonnet because hair be it curly or straight is prone to breaking especially as you get older.

“You’re racist for caring for your hair with a method your friend suggested for you to use”

In the early 1900s to the 80s the bonnet was a staple of everyone's bed routine. You can literally see people using it in old movies lol

Just FYI... A satin pillow case also works well to prevent knots

I have thick curly hair too and wish my black friend had suggested I wear one.

People need to stop this stupid gatekeeping... like wtf? FYI, bonnets appear in several cultures across centuries. So does braided hair.

I’m white and have friends who don’t speak English, I wear a Mexico jersey but they are never offended by it, my one friend from Mexico said he likes it, I speak a little Spanish but I’m not fluent and I’m still learning

Cultures are needed to be shared and celebrated. Not for one culture or race.

People who are white and don’t have extremely curly hair need to really STFU sometimes

I have 4c curls. My hair literally sticks out in all directions like an Afro naturally if I don’t keep it short. I have been asked by white people and POC if have a black ancestor somewhere in there solely based on my hair (I have an extremely pale complexion, so pale my cheeks are naturally red). As far as we are aware this is just a pretty natural version of Jewish hair and the combination of Irish genes only made it more intense.

I use only products marketed towards POC. I have to call ahead and ask if hair salons are even comfortable cutting my hair (I grew up in such a white area many of the hair stylists had 0 clue what to do with my hair). I’ve had black friends of mine actively suggest wear a bonnet or the masculine version (cause my hair is so short).

It’s cultural appropriation if you do the thing and don’t acknowledge the culture it’s from. Like you pretend you invented it.

People of all kinds can have curls. We need to learn from each other not gatekeep.

Look, Not meaning to brag here or anything but I’m black and when I see a girl or anyone else wearing a bonnet, it makes me feel happy to share our culture. A smile came to my face once she mentioned wearing the bonnet. It’s just the way you’re Dad’s girlfriend took it I guess

I'm a certified racist and wearing a bonnet is not racist at all.
