Each weekday morning, "CBS Mornings” co-hosts Gayle King, Tony Dokoupil and Nate Burleson bring you the latest breaking news, smart conversation and in-depth feature reporting. "CBS Mornings" airs weekdays at 7 a.m. on CBS and stream it at 8 a.m. ET on the CBS News app.

I intermittently fast but do it from noon to 8pm. It seems to work well and I’ve lost about 50 doing it.

It works! I've lost 15 pounds WITHOUT DIETING since February. I eat breakfast and a late lunch. I don't eat after 3 pm. I a m rarely hungry after that so I don't eat dinner. For the occasional late snack, I'll have a small serving of walnuts or a small salad and a sugar-free beverage.

My girl and I switched to 2 meals a day with light snack at night. Dropped 60 lbs. Breakfast (bacon egg and cheese on english muffin) and around 3:30 eat nice dinner. No restrictions either.

There is another study Thomas DeLauer shared that showed the time window is important for the most benefits (he shares several). The group that at from 6-3 did the best. While there are benefits to 12-8 they weren't as good as the 6-3, both were better than those who didn't fast.

As far as being sustainable, you don't have to fast everyday to see benefits. 😊

I've been doing a 16:8 fast properly for like three weeks ( did it 'sort of' for two weeks before that) and have gone from 19st7 to 18st 4 in 5 weeks, only 3 weeks of actually doing intermittent fasting properly with high fat/low carb meals - whenever I do have carbs they're wholegrains. It is an amazing and sustainable way for me to manage my weight cause it's way easier for me to just not eat during the day than consistently choose low calorie or healthy options, especially since I'm usually travelling all over town and healthy options aren't quick and easy to come by.

I have heard that it's better to fast at night and eat during the day but it doesn't work well with my schedule, fast from about 2am - about 6pm then eat from 6pm - 2am rinse and repeat.

Wouldn't call it NEW study. Friends and I were doing this in 80s...Very valuable technique for losing weight and more. Chiropractor in Hawaii had me on this program..Definitely worth highlighting today for better overall health.

I think time restriction eating will have the same impact if you did it in the morning or at night.

I came up with a new fasting diet. It’s called “inaminute” fasting. I wait for 60 seconds before I eat next. Takes a lot of discipline. It will change lives

I eat at 9am, 12 pm and 6 pm, then intermittent fast for 15 hours. I basically just eat a nice size dinner at 6 pm. 9am and 12 pm are very small meals. about 300 calories each meal. 6pm meal I do up to 1000 calories max. This is what works for me and I've lost 65 pounds in 9 months doing this. Also, I drink lots of water. Even after 6 pm my only intake would be a cup of water if I'm hungry. I do this everyday except Saturday and Sunday. I pretty much eat pizza, wings, cheesesteak, chinese food but weekends I do 1 large meal and one very small meal a day. Eating that kind of food will fill you up mostly all day cause you will get use to not eating as much as you did before. Remember this is what works for me. You have to find out what works for you but you have to try it first and see it for yourself. Everyone else's plans will not work for everyone.

it does work! my first meal is at 10:30 am, some snack in between and dinner is at 5:45p, . I don't eat anything else at night. Of course, during the eating window, you need to choose real food

If you know your going to have a big dinner in the evening, just skip early eating the next day. As long as you allow 16-20 hours of not eating, you can choose any time to fast.

so simply put, strictly to 2 meals a day only no snacks in between or afterwards.

I just started doing this but I fast 16 hours a day but through the night and I dont eat till 4 :30 in the afternoon. I've lost 10 pounds so far . I just started a month n a half ago. I couldn't belive it!! But now that I know this info maybe I should switch it to eating in the morning instead and in the afternoon. But I'm good doing the way I'm doing it. We will see . The way I'm doing it is Good for me though. It wasn't hard doing it at all .I'm going to continue. Thanks for the info.👍

I've been trying to do it and I find it difficult because I always wake up around 5 a.m. (after 6 hours of sleep) and can't get back to sleep because my stomach is growling. Another thing they never mention is that your ability to fast can depend on what you do. If you're someone with a job that involves a lot of movement and physical labor, it's easier to not think about being hungry then it is if you're a "knowledge worker" and spend your day in front of a computer screen thinking. The brain needs glucose which is why "thinking" work makes you hungry. Also, if you're trying to solve a problem, you may look for a distraction like snacking. Anyway, IF has lots of benefits but it's not easy.

My work day starts at 3pm I don’t think the time of the day is what’s important

This is petty but her need for validation by ending every statement with “right?” is such a pet peeve.

Eating in the MORNING instead of the afternoon is NOT for me. I am never even hungry in the morning!
