The Bible says that women should stay silent in church. But, what does that really mean? Does that mean that women aren’t able to teach the Bible? Or does it literally mean that women should not speak or ask questions in church? This video will explore what this very controversial passage really means in its context.

Can a woman teach? Yes. Can she lead a bible study? Yes. Can she be a pastor of a church? No. God is eternal, he hasn't changed his mind.

Paul was clear and explicit on this, as he was on the topic of homosexuality. Everybody is free to live the life they want but no one is free to distort the Scriptures.

Amen!!! I taught this more than a decade ago when I saw it during study. Thank you for teaching it broadly. When we misappropriate scripture we create a picture that God never intended.

This is one of the best no-nonsense teachings I have heard on this verse and subject. Good order in the material. It can be demoralizing to be a woman in a church that stands on the silence issue and for women who have controlling, abusive or non-believing husbands it is especially demoralizing. When a woman in this scenario is also silenced at church it can seem as if all men have authority over her. Thank you for this teaching.

Brother, thank you so much for delving into this subject so succinctly. This really clears up a lot of misunderstanding about this controversial subject. As you say, the scriptures are not contradictory.

We need to be careful and not add to or take away from the word. Paul's words are clear to me.

Mike Winger has also just released one of his last Women in Ministry teachings videos on the same topic titled 'Women be Silent'. It's very long, comprehensive and very good. Plenty of timestamps if you're in a rush 🙂

Wow -- thank you so much for this! I'm a new Christian and my experiences with chauvinistic pastors keeping women down with selectively quoting and twisting scripture (as well as a lifetime of abuse) turned me off from being curious about what Jesus and The Word had to offer. I'm so glad Jesus intervened and took hold of my heart despite this, and that He's now led me to this interpretation. Grateful for this, Pastor Allen!

What about 1 Timothy 2:11-15 Allen? God has ordained men to lead the church. We are not to conform to the culture. That is what is wrong with the church today. Beth Moore is great for teaching the woman’s ministries; however the Word of God is absolutely clear that women are not to lead men. The Word of God is our authority not contemporary culture.

Such a good and needed series. People attack the Christian faith on points like this and not studying the word sets us up for poor defense of faith. The one thing objectors to the bible study are points such as these to make us look foolish so we must be even more diligent and ready to defend the faith, not shying away from difficult topics. If you are shying away from these topics you should ask yourself why. Pray to God to increase your faith which is biblical.

The phrase “it’s cultural” is minimizing Gods mind as if he didn’t know the “culture “ would change, hence the reason he compared it to the Creation

When a speaker says, we need to look at the culture of that time, you know, you need to turn the speaker off. We live in a different culture, and this doesn”t mean the truth needs to be adjusted.

With regards to teaching, women can indeed teach but not over a man.. She can teach fellow women and children.

Allen You fail to mention the part where Paul says women should not exercise authority over men and they are to remain submissive . Was he not talking about women teaching / preaching to men in the church ? Because that's how I read the scriptures. I also understand women can teach other women and children . Therefore I have to disagree with your interpretation . As for tongues I understand it to be a known language. But I don't think you were clear on that part. Thanks for the video

Thank you 🙏🏽 for the explanation of these verses! I need to watch it again but I’ve never heard someone break this down in context and use scripture to back up scripture. 🤓

What Paul was referring to by women having to keep silent in the congregation in this context was to give direction to women who were speaking out of turn during the congregation meetings. (1Corinthians 14:28, 30, 34) Some women were interrupting or challenging the men who took the lead in teaching. Paul was encouraging those women who had questions or concerns to “ask their husbands at home” rather than disrupt the meetings.
Additionally, Paul here is inspired to uphold the Scriptural direction that God assigns men to handle the oversight positions among his people. (1 Timothy 2:12) The apostle left no doubt that he greatly valued women as fellow ministers or preachers of the good news. (Romans 16:1, 2; Philippians 4:2, 3) His inspired direction did not exclude women from participating in congregation meetings. (Hebrews 10:23-25)
