Mate feels like 2005, which I think is why I have never liked it. I prefer XFCE, which feels like 1998 :-)

Even though I use Cinnamon DE on my main computer, the Mate style of having two taskbars is the best and most efficient for me. Great video.

Great video! I have a similar decision to yours regarding Linux Mint MATE although the Ubuntu version is not bad either. I myself am learning how to squeeze the juice out of MX Linux for work and media production.

Question: Do you have any videos on how you use the software in Linux to make your videos??? It might be a great learning experience for many. Thank you!

I love Mate! You can put any DE you want on it and it just works!

I'm now running Ubuntu Mate, I somehow find it more pleasing to use than Mint. I did however add the Gnome software Centre and for ease installed and triggered gnome online accounts so that my calendar and email syncs properly and of course my Google drive will show in the file manager.

Tough choice. Both are great. If you can, try both and see which one you prefer.

I don't have the Ubuntu but I just switched my 9 year old Sony Vaio to Cinnamon 18 and love it!

This is off topic for this video, but I'm looking for someone to do a
video on installing Linux Mint to an Intel Optane drive, and configuring
the Optane part to cache the NAND part, like in Windwoes. Could you
help?

Linux Mint Mate on the Settings section, doesn’t have options for Camera nor Microphone. I wanted to turn those off on my laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad W520) and I checked everywhere

It has been Linux Mint for a few years now and if Ubuntu Mate is more similar to Windows, that's a good reason for me not to use it.

Mint has a more up to date MATE and is supported for 5 years while Ubuntu MATE LTS only has 3 yeara of support and older MATE version. You'd only use Ubuntu over Mint if you wanna use the non LTS releases or just like the look more. Other than that Mint is superior.

I know this is old, but you didn’t actually show the Mate desktop in Mint at all. Why not?

Does anyone know how in Linux Mint Mate you can get the old gnome 2 look? Once upon a time the gnome 2 d/top environment used to be *the* environment of Linux. Things have moved on I suppose from the late '90s & early 2000s. But gnome 2 still has its loyal fans. Cheers
