When one is born again they are a new creature (2nd Corinthians 5:17). Every creature has a creator that created it so the new creature did not create itself. The new creature was created spiritual by a spiritual being (Holy Spirit by the power of God). The phrase ‘get born again’ is a misnomer as the unregenerate person did not have anything to do with the new creature, it’s creator did:

James 1:18-“Of His own will begat He us with the Word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures.”
