I’m the type of person who tends to fall apart without pretty strict structure in my life. I’d already been struggling with sleep hygiene pre Covid when I’d always be feeling dead tired due to insufficient sleep getting up to get to work on time only with the aid of a specialized heart attack ensuing 120 decibel alarm clock ordered offline for elderly people with hearing problems called the “Screaming Meanie” that proudly boasted in its advertising, “if the sound equivalent to a fire truck with sirens blaring racing past mere inches away from you head doesn’t wake you up, your probably dead”.
Now that I’m not working, I feel close to losing my mind. Over the past year I’ve slowly pushed going to sleep further and further back to where now I’m basically unable to break the chain of getting back to a healthy sleep schedule that allows for sunlight to be part of my existence.
I find even if I attempt to stay up the entire next day after what’s become a normal night of not sleeping in order to just fall asleep at a normal time the following night, I wake up not only feeling not rested, but also having anxiety being awake during the day.
All this has caused me to feel like a basket case. I really hope these days of forced isolation from human contact come to an end soon as I can’t take existing in the real life version of Bushwick Bill’s experience in Ghetto Boys “Minds Playin’ Tricks On Me” much longer in my parents basement...

I wonder how much of the research focusing on folks who sleep during the day & are active at night works to deal with selection biases. I imagine they do a good job with this, but it'd be so easy to misconstrue negative findings simply because the types of people to work at night or for other reasons be active at night are also the types of people who tend to be more unhealthy than the average person. I could see this being correlated to IQ & decision making, which would correlate to health.
