The video never says or suggests that more than 6 hours sleep is killing your brain and performance. It only talks about the benefits of consistency over length.

I think I need 9 hours of sleep per night to function optimally. When I consistently get, say, 7 hours of sleep per night, I start to feel like a total zombie within a few days and can hardly think straight and be logical. So I think amount of sleep per night is indeed very important.

I have sleep apnea, had this since I was a baby, had a stroke at 15 requiring invasive brain surgery, leaving me with aphasia and chronic migraine that never leaves not one moment, sleep is hard for me but I can’t leave the bed same time 😔 I’m 30 now

Better to listen to Dr. Walker who Huberman interviewed who said you need 7-8 hours of sleep, even if you think you need less, and it's only a tiny percentage of people with genetics where they can do well with less. I was getting away with 6-6.5 hours for a couple years and my blood tests got worse.

I could not diagree with you more. I sailed around the world mostly solo, and always sleep deprived. Speel is like a reservoir of water....you can run it down and fill it up, but the body ALWAYS remembers. Lack of sleep is extremely unhealthy, and too much sleep once in a while for is not a bad thing. I think the cognitive study you refer to does not take into consideration the temporary sleep hangover which will slow anyones response time, but that doesnt make it a bad thing. Skeep deprivation itself leads to many physiological changes, and can bring on stroke even in relatively youg people. The only time the body really repairs itself is during SLEEP....the rest of the time it is way too busy priving work, thought, and metabolizing.

I noticed this fact initially when I got super busy working a full time job and 3 side hustles. I was more productive getting 5.5 -6 hrs than I was sleeping different intervals 6, 7, 8, 9 hrs when I could..

When workout more I sleep better. Simple for me. Can't sleep means get active till I drop. Stress melts away.

I have a high sleep requirement and am fatigued with less than 7 or 8 hours of sleep and I’m tired of people telling me I only need 6 hours. I’m the best judge of how much sleep I need to feel awake 🙄

I let myself get more sleep in winter because that seems like a natural rhythm but seem to need only about 6-7 the rest of the year.

I need 8 at least. If i don't set an alarm i sleep like 9 - 10 hours.

The mistake is "to strive". Instead, disconnect and let nature take over. Your body will take what it needs when you stop over-thinking and flow instead 😊

He is saying this due to the effects of inconsistent sleep on the circadian rhythm. Having consistent sleep will keep your circadian rythme in check, whereas sleeping for inconsistent hours will make it out of sync. This would through off your whole day due to a lot of reasons, for which I will not go into because he mentions all of them on his podcast.
Yes ideally 7-8 hours of sleep is optimal, but if you can’t do that consistently, then opting for 6hrs every night may be best if you want to optimize your circadian rythme.

People need to understand that its not lack of sleep that is making us more tired, I think it has more to do with how badly we treat our bodies. Most of us don't eat well, we do no exercise, we're not receiving any vital vitamins from plants, the sun, etc. There is barely anything natural in our day to day life anymore. That's not everyone, but for most of us it is. The work we do mostly is mundane. We are mostly bored and mentally drained. Most of us don't even know how to sleep properly. The fact that we "want" to sleep more is probably because we are mainly depressed, deprived, and are becoming dehumanized. This is only a clip. A small shred of information. I've seen his vids and they are filled with incredible information. Try not to criticize what you don't understand. Just listen and maybe a little of what he's trying to explain will filter through and make great changes to our lives. I listen from time to time and it really opens my mind up to great information.
