Tyrvaya is a prescription medication approved for the treatment of signs and symptoms of dry eye disease. What is so unique is that Tyrvaya is administered as a nasal spray. It is believed to work through stimulation of the trigeminal parasympathetic pathway (activating the 5th cranial nerve that innervates your nose which also communicates to the 7th cranial nerve that stimulates your lacrimal glands). Used twice a day, clinical studies have shown a significant rise in basal tear film secretion after 4 weeks of use. Thankfully, there are very few side effects from the medication and none are very serious.

What treatment for dry eye has helped you the most??

I’ve been using it for a few months, and yes it has made a considerable improvement to my dryness.

I find it so interesting that we also use the medicine in Tyrvaya (varenicline) to help people stop smoking! (Champix / Chantix). I believe it binds to nicotinic acetylcholine receptors to help release dopamine, in order to reduce cigarette cravings. Your explanation of Tyrvaya’s mechanism is fascinating!! It’s so cool that we can use the same medicine to treat different conditions by exploiting its pharmacodynamic properties

I've been using it for a month now and I just love it! I felt like eye drops were doing more to exacerbate my dry eyes, but the use of Tyrvaya has been leaps and bounds ahead of eye drops! I feel that it is worth the momentary discomfort of using it to not have to put drops in my eyes four times aday!

My doctor prescribed me this when it first came out. Other eye drops didn’t help. This medication was so new that my insurance didn’t cover, but thankfully I got it for $10 a month! I’ve been on it for about 45 days now. I had a check up last week and my symptoms & eyes have got significantly better! I do sometimes have to use regular eye drops (damn heavy winds) but I can honestly say this nasal spray is a game changer!

Great review! When I used Tyrvaya for the first time I had a lot of nose irritation and a "fullness" in my head. It definitely helps moisten my eyes and I feel it working!

A game changer but only for a few months. The side effects like sneezing stopped after a few months, but so did the effectiveness. My dry eyes are now worse than ever.

I have had severe dry eye for over a year. Nothing has helped, including Restasis. About 10 days ago I got samples of Tyrvaya from my Ophthalmologist. I was skeptical about nose spray for dry eyes but willing to try anything. And dang, I got relief with my very first use. My eyes feel normal for the first time in a long time. It is scary as I am afraid the effect will go away, but it has continued to work. Like you, I have had the rare sneeze and tickle in my throat but no other side effects. I am so happy. I can't wait to tell my doctor.

Wonderful review!!! I am using Xiidra now… But I would rather use the Nasl spray. I am so excited about this medication. I made an appointment for eye doctor as soon as I watched your video!!!! Thank you Doctor!!! You are amazing 🤩

Very interesting, especially since I’ve had a trigeminal neuralgia headache before, so as a severe dry eye sufferer, your video really is interesting! I also suffered the feeling of full ears for four years, before starting Restasis one year ago. After one month of using Restasis, I’ve never had anymore ear fullness. Thank you for this new product update!

I find even using a saline nasal spray (Ocean) makes my eyes feel better. Thank you, Dr!!

This nasal spray works well for me. You have to use it daily though. My eye immediately went from normal to feeling dry when I stopped using it. Worth the $$ if you can afford it.

I like that it stimulates meibomian glands. Makes sense. Thank you for informing us of this new medication.

So grateful for this. Trying Restasis right now with marginal results, better than without but can't wait to see if this will help even more plus not needing the added problem of waiting 15 minutes before reinserting your contact lenses. Especially in the morning.

Thanks for info Dr. Allen.
I am currently experiencing dry eyes from past 6 months. My doctor prescribed me restasis, eye drop & gel, & omega capsules.
It's working but very slowly as he said🤕.

This makes perfect sense to me because I have found that using a neti pot with non iodized salt and warm water every morning completely eliminates and prevents my dry eye syndrome.

I suffer from chronic dry eye, so this is very helpful information.

I am loving it so far. I was not able to read or see close up. It is worth it so far. I have a very helpful doctor. It is the first doctor that offered much help, others attempted but this really is working. Your YouTube education has helped me so much. Thank you!!!!
