Learn all about the best natural dry eyes treatment! Here I share some research and guidance into what I consider to be the best natural treatment for dry eyes. Dry eye syndrome can be very complex and more omega-3 fatty acids in your diet can help prevent dry eye symptoms naturally. If you are struggling with your dry eyes, hopefully, this information will help you out.

As noted in the video, this content is not sponsored and I did not want to discuss any brands of omega 3 supplements specifically.

If you want to track the omega 3 numbers in your own blood (like I have),

If you wish to dive down the rabbit hole of how omega 3s can help with dry eye, as I did, here is a list of referenced studies to help you.

Triglyceride vs Ethyl Ester Omega 3s

Additional support

Despite the research cited, there is some debate in the literature about omega 3s but a lot of that can be lost in the small nuances of the research being conducted.
Personally, at least on the topic of dry eye, I have found the majority of research supports omega 3s can help improve meibomian gland secretions, reduce tear film inflammation, stabilize the tear film and improve dry eye symptoms.

Note: Dry eye syndrome can be complicated by other forms of ocular surface disease and it is always best to consult with your local eye care professional if you are experiencing any eye pain or vision changes.

Have you ever tried omega 3s? What for and what was your experience?

After studying and suffering from dry eye, I understood that dry eyes is not an eye disease, its disease related to inflammation which can be due to viral infections, immune related issues, or related to gut, work on underlying causes, any eye drop, warm compress etc are short term relief but nothing changes without dealing with underlying cause

Just wanted me make a comment about dry eyes…..I am a retired hospital nurse and have worn contact lenses for 56 years ( since I was fourteen) . I have found that when I am well hydrated with pure drinking water …..……have purposely hydrated at designated times during the day ( like taking a dose of life -saving medicine!), I do not have dry eyes and my contact lenses remain comfortable from sunup to ( well past) sundown. In my decades of nursing, I never had to wear my glasses once…….as long as I was well hydrated!!! I discovered the importance of drinking water to make the eyes moist ! Just wanted to share!

Vitamin A 5000 IU per day is what finally healed my dry eyes. I had been doing fish oil and warm compresses which helped a little, but it was the Vitamin A that finally worked.

Taking omega 3, thst has EPA and DHA, Occuvite Complete twice a day, drinking lots of water, and using a tear solution and anti-allergy eye drops thst have no preservatives in them had helped my extremely dry eye problem tremendously.

Thank you Doctor Allen! I've learned much more from you about my eye problem than the opthalmologist I saw last month.

So helpful. I have under active thyroid and coeliac disease and for years I have had chronic pain in my eyes and they are red and the pain stops me feeling good.
So I have only just after 27 years of having this that b12 and B6 helps and now your recommendation of omega3s
The uk doctors and NHS are discussing they don’t help or even look at what autoimmune disease causes secondary inflammation.
Also if it wasn’t for a family friend I would have died within a year as I was undiagnosed from birth to age13!
I lost childhood, education and mental and physical development. So videos and people like yourself are a blessing. Thank you 🙏🏼

medications with it, so, for me it's working.

Thanks for the comprehensive content, they’re so informative doc! I have just started a job as a triage orthoptist and your videos have made my life so much easier. I am able to actually connect patient symptoms and really communicate with patients more accurately and effectively!

Would be really interested to see if you have videos on more “niche” corneal conditions, particularly Fuchs Dystrophy in terms of diagnosis, treatment/management - especially before or until surgical intervention is necessary. Thanks again ❤

Thank you so much for your videos on dry eye syndrome. In December I woke up one morning with my eyelid stuck to my eyeball which created an abrasion on my cornea. I’m still dealing with vision problems four months later because of scar tissue on my cornea. I’m looking very forward to your recommendation on the best omega-3‘s. Thanks again for what you do!

I had dry eyes for years. I saw top ophthalmologist at the medical school and the doctor asked me if had sinus surgery because he noticed many patients with dry eyes had sinus surgery. I did have sinus surgery! I had tried 25 different eye drops, I did warm compresses, the tea tree eyelid wash and increased my Omega 3 still had dry eyes! We went to this health spa signed up for three day water fast on alkaline water to induce autophagy. I noticed my dry eyes went away! I talked to my ND about it later and he put me on an alkalizing formula that is mixed in water and told me to increase my water intake as well and that worked I was cured.

I'm looking forward to your video about the blood test! I mean, first we have to know what our omega 3 / omega 6-level is and decide based on these values if we need supplements or if we don't need them. That would be my way to go. Of course the question would also be what good values are...

thank you so much for your videos!! I love my omega-3 supplement and I noticed that on days when I take it my eyes a less dry. Actually, what you mentioned about eating fish is important to note, because for a time I was eating trout twice a week and did not see that it was really helping my dry eyes. We later started buying salmon and wow!! it improved. So like you said its important to eat the right kind of fish too. Thank you again for all your useful videos. Excellent videos!!

Wow, I didn't know omega 3 came from algae! I'm curious how much is found in seweed and spirulina... Everyone always talks about Salmon. Fun fact aquarist like to feed sharks in aquariums fatty fish like mackerel and herring b/c the oils help their buoyancy. PS: love the cute animation sounds ❤

Great update. Mentioned this on a previous clip, but 4-5 grams/day of triglyceride Omega 3 over 12 weeks worked pretty well for me. As you suggest. not a silver bullet but very good efficacy. Add to this the general downregulation of inflammation overall and it's a win win.
