We really need better treatments for dry eyes and insurance really needs to help out 😡

MY TIP: Direct warm water from the shower on to your closed eyes. This apparently frees congealed oil from the tear ducts. Add some eyelid massage if needed.

Dr. Allen, thank you so much for spreading hope to this community. As someone who is only 23 years old and has suffered severely from dry eye and corneal neuropathy I thank you from the bottom of my heart for bringing hope for better days ahead. This disease can be very depressing and difficult. I’m excited to hear if some of these treatments being studied now become available soon !

As a Sjogrens pt I thank you for even mentioning it. I take Restasis which burned like crazy, until my dr said to keep it in the fridge, no burning and after a week or so no burning at all so hope this helps someone.

Dr Allen is like my superhero of the medical world. Drs who explain things, go above and beyond “the norm” and have peoples best interests at heart are few and rare.

Thank you so much for this!
Just one small comments:
- sleep absolutely impacts my dry eye and how intense that “foreign body feeling”, blurred vision is. I travel a lot for work and feel my eyes way worse as soon as I sleep in a new environment or even if I sleep 1 hour less than usual. As soon as I’m home and back to the normal routine, the dry eye becomes manageable again.

It is really nice to understand this is not just a coincidence I made up in my mind - it feels very validating. Thank you again!

I never heard of this disease until I got it. It was hard to get diagnosed, got an RX drop. I am to wash my eye lids with baby shampoo and also use hot, wet cloths. I had thick blurry tears running down my face. It was oil glands overproducing to make up for tear glands that no longer produce. I understand it is common to older women. I’m 73.

Love Dr. Allen, which he was in my state, I would certainly be his patient. His videos are so helpful, I learned how to remove my contacts and maintenance from several of his videos. Blessings to him and his practice.

I have been seeing an Opthalmologist for 25 years & just learned that a have AMD! I have learned more from you then I ever learned from my Dr! I have done my own research as have been told only eye drops help; well I have learned that I might have been able to Prevent AMD. I am so disappointed that Opthalmologist's are not more informative with their patients; my Opthalmologist retired a year ago + I am seeing a younger one, however, he has not been anymore helpful then the older one. thank you so much, you have educated me on what I can do & I feel I am doing better trying everything safe that I can with your guidance. I live in Canada. Recently a local Optometrist has advertised treatment for AMD called MacuMira. Have you heard of this treatment? If I lived in Minnesota, I would be calling you for an appointment. Keep up the amazing work on YouTube, you are making a difference!

Miebo convert here. I've been using it for a month and for the first time since April 2021 I've had zero staining when I got my dry eye check up. Dry eyes have been a problem off and on for years but in 2021 I developed an ulcer on my eye (work in healthcare and constant masking then). My journey from then to Miebo has included: lotemax, restasis, xiidar, cequa, tyrvana, punctal plugs, nightly ointment with protective goggles for sleep, autologous serum tears (4 rounds), amniotic serum drops, and two rounds of amniotic sac membranes placed on my corneas that finally healed them enough to wear scleral lenses. I'm hopeful that Miebo will continue to improve my eye health. First ray of hope in a ling time.

Many thanks Dr Allen for your very helpful videos. I'm watching them from Cheshire, UK. My dry eyes have improved dramatically after your suggestion of using the warm patch for between 10 and 20 minutes. For me I've found 16 minutes works well, using an electrical heat pad daily, that plugs into a USB socket and then massage my eye lids.🙏👍🙂Best regards Oliver

I’ve been on restasis for a long time. I began taking Omega XL (fish oil) for my joints and have noticed how much less dry my eyes have become.

I’m in Minnesota too and our winters are brutal on dry eyes. Not looking forward to another 5 months of my eyeballs sticking to my eyelids. Hope the new treatments work and are approved quickly. Thank you!

Hey doc, I've been struggling with MGD for the last 20 years (crazy it's been so long). Thanks for the effort you put into those videos, it's a good feeling that a major youtuber is interested in this topic!

I have chronic dry eyes and have had plugs put in twice over the years. I find they do help a little but not enough. I was then put on cyclosporine and didn’t find it all that helpful either. When I have a flare up it doesn’t feel like anything helps. But the flare ups don’t usually last over a couple of months. Very frustrating. I haven’t been able to wear makeup which I hate so I really appreciate your information and will give that product a try! So far after around 20 years of this I learned more on this one video than the 20 years! Thank you for what you’re doing! ❤

I’ve had dry eyes for almost 20 years. I’ve been on Restasis (hate it - it burns!), and Xiidra (better than Restasis, but still burns), and both at the same time (really bad dry eyes). My doctor put in plugs in my lower tear ducts, as drips would drain almost as soon as you put them in. She then put me on Lacricert (a tiny tube placed in the lower lid that dissolves. I like that, but can’t wear overnight, as my eyes are too dry. They discovered that my mybomium glands are mostly gone 😞 on one eye and 1/2 gone on the other. I also have a demodex mite issue (I had 2 in-office treatments where the lid was scrubbed with a tool and a tea tree oil solution. The second treatment caused a scratched cornea). Plus fibromyalgia. Then my doctor left the practice. I lost one of my plugs. The new dry eye specialist requested I start using an overnight eye ointment. I discovered that most over the counter overnight eye ointments contain lanolin (I’m allergic). Ended up with 2 major eye infections before we figured out the cause. My new specialist seems so ambivalent about replacing my missing plug. He did give me a trial of a prescription dry eye treatment, I cannot remember the name, it was new 2ish years ago and starts with an “S”. It seemed to help, but as I’m unemployed, there was no way I’d be able to afford it.

I have found that taking 2, 000 mgs of Omega 3s a day is helping. I also wash my eyes with Thera Tears Eye wash for dry eyes, and use Clearadex wipes. Lots of different eye gels (Dr looked at them and approved). I don’t have insurance so I can’t afford any of these new treatments coming out. I can’t even afford to see my eye doctor right now! We need affordable options so we don’t lose our sight, as I’m told that will be my future.

I have had moderate success lately with lightly massaging my lids. I place a lite cloth across my eyes & gently massage counting to 100 twice a day. I compress with warm / hot water 1 / 2 /day . Also in my one room lodge I hang a wet towel in bathroom & on the heat register. I’m having much less irritation. I’m now using drops mostly @ bedtime.
