Dry eye disease is a common eye disorder that causes dry, burning, red eyes and fluctuating vision. Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD) is the leading cause of dry eye disease, and plays a role in about 86% of cases.

A recent FDA trial showed that Lumenis IPL with patented Optimal Pulse Technology (OPT®) significantly improved tear breakup time, meibum quality, and meibomian gland expressibility.

🟡Quick Info about IPL Intense Pulsed Light featured🟡
- OptiLight is a new in-office Intense Pulsed Light therapy developed for the management of dry eye disease.
- It's the first and only IPL FDA approved (April 2021) for dry eye management.
- IPL (intense pulsed light) is commonly used for facial rejuvenation and photo facials, but then doctors discovered this type of light-based therapy works for dry eye management too.
- Dry eye disease is an inflammatory condition. OptiLight is an IPL light-based therapy that treats the inflammation, restores the meibomian glands and improves the tear layer

Dry eye syndrome can be complicated by other forms of ocular surface disease and it is always best to consult with your local eye care professional if you are experiencing any eye pain or vision changes.

Do you have dry eyes? Have you had IPL treatment? What has been your experience?

I don't understand why insurance companies don't cover treatment for dry eyes.
Our insurance coverage has really gone down hill

I have severe MGD and the evaporator type. I have multifactorial causes. I have lost 70 percent of my oil glands . I just had a Lipiflow treatment done a week ago. My dry eye specialist went to that school in Seattle Washington for dry eye. He knows Dr. Periman. I may need both procedures done. I live in Corydon, Indiana. I was told that the University in Bloomington Indiana and a clinic in Indianapolis has the IPL treatment. My eyes hurt so badly. I am hoping and praying that I can regenerate my meibomian glands. I had never heard of this problem before. I am concerned of losing my vision. I have been healthy all my life and didn't smoke or drink. I told my eye doctor about you and your u tube channel. I have learned so much from you and my eye doctor was impressed with my knowledge. I love your channel and appreciate you trying to help us all with dry eyes of all forms. If you know of any great clinic, please let me know . Ty Blessings!

I would love to see you partner with Dr. Dray (or another dermatologist) to do a series of videos on (1) IPL (2) retinol (3) red light and (4) warm compresses, discussing whether they’re safe for both the eyes and the skin around the eyes, their potential impact on the eyes vs. their impact on the skin around the eyes, and ways to minimize risks for both eyes and skin.

I had IPL done- a total of 4 sessions and much of my eyelid swelling has decreased. (I only really had issues with my left eye due to a recurrent stye that damaged my meibomian glands). I'm trying to decrease the swelling further with an anti-inflammatory diet to knock out the ocular rosacea. I feel like I had the perfect storm of blepharitis and demodex and every other thing including allergies in my left eye! It's been a journey for sure. I'm about to start on Tyrvaya. Fingers crossed I'll be able to wear mascara again in 2022! Thank you for the informative videos!!

I’m so happy to be getting these treatments. They are so worth it!

Just wanted to say: I had my second IPL treatment earlier today. I was feeling improvements in my symptoms a few days after the first session, so I expect that to continue. Absolutely NOTHING improved my symptoms whatsoever until IPL. Even at this early stage, I highly encourage you to seek it out if you have MGD/Evaporative Dry Eye. Thanks Dr. Allen! You inspired me to do this.

Please, everyone, there are no cures, but hopefully, somethings allows us to manage this horrendous condition or disease. I'm so great full for honesty. Sadly alot of dryeye doctors withhold info or just don't know. Most drain us of our funds, I now work 2 jobs most of my money is spent on my eyes. We really need to stick together and continue to talk. What works for some might not work for others and as we know there a severity levels. Best of luck and thank you all for zny help.

I’m so glad you were honest about how it feels! I’m autistic and had to have my first IPL session last week and I had to heavily sedate myself

Hello, I am so very glad you were honest and said it hurt, because I've two treatments and both times, It really did hurt. The treatment took between 5 to 7 minutes, with little breaks when I needed them. I'm not at all wimpy. I walked on a leg with a broken fibula for three days. But I dread these treatments. The good thing is that it's all over in seven minutes or so, and it is helping with the inflammation in my eye and my doctor was able to get a lot of old, thickened oil out of my eyelids and my eyes and skin did look amazingly better afterwards. I have been very fortunate. My doctor charges $175.00 a treatment for both eyes. She's a very young, kind doctor and is very passionate about treating dry eye disease.

I did 4 sessions of IPL for my MGD and ocular rosacea. The only difference i saw was a nice big hole in my wallet. Sure my eyes felt better for a few days after but my symptoms returned after

5-6 months ago I had 3 sessions as my doctor recommended to treat my dry eyes and yes they do help so much to the point that you don't have to relay on artificial drops anymore. Just keep in mind that this is not permanent and you would have to do 1 more session every 6 months or so to maintain.

I've had IPL done as a photofacial skin treatment so when I learned it could help my extreme dry eye, I didn't bat an eye (pun intended haha). The sting is tolerable and absolutely worth it for the results, which are practically immediate. I highly recommend getting the treatment, but unfortunately it is not cheap. I hope more studies are done and more clinics offer this treatment. It has really made a difference for me. Even using a FDA approved at home IPL device has helped to maintain my results, but I don't recommend one of those devices for anyone who has not already had IPL done.
