My husband and I both have autism but we didn't realize it when we dated. It was beautiful to have that connection and someone who really got me!

I've dated NTs and Autistic men, never worked out with any of them and I dated loads BUT the communication between me and the autistic men was better and more natural.

This seems like a weak argument… my allistic bf loves to brag about the skills behind my special interests to all his friends. He finds it so impressive. I’m direct and honest. I’ll never manipulate him. I’m good at all the repetitive, introvert tasks that bore and exhaust him, and he’s good at the social, communicative tasks that stress and exhaust me. We balance out each other’s talents and weaknesses.

My partner and I have really done better since figuring out we are both autistic and that's improved our ability to communicate greatly. We can say we are over simulated or such and then we know what that means and how to respond to it.

My partner does not have autism, and despite my explaining that I need more connection, input and communication than he gives, it never changes for more than a day. It gets compounded by the fact that I have Ehlers-Danlos and that isolates me a lot. I think his ADHD keeps him self-absorbed most of the time, so we live alongside one another more than we have meaningful integration.

Even surrounded by others, I have been alone my whole life, and fear it will never change.
