Hey for anyone struggling or learning I want to mention that the wood of the baseboard and spindle just have to be of equal hardness to make the best friction!
So don't get too hung up on whether it's
soft or hard just get the spindle and
baseboard roughly equal in hardness. (If
the spindle is much softer than the
baseboard then the spindle will grind down super quickly)

I've seen quite a few vids and a number of diagrams on doing this; and this was the easiest to follow and most helpful I've encountered. I appreciate you sharing this. Take care and be well!

Great video very informative and helpful. The way my life is going I'm 4 weeks to go before I become homeless and I was served with eviction notice. I'm disabled and looking at what they asking for rent in Massachusetts its like paying a mortgage 1 -2 bedrooms the price is $1, 100 to $1, 500 and what I receive from disability is $1, 200 . I watched all your videos so I can survive out in the woods. Thank you for making these videos.

Me staring at a tree for three hours:
"This is a soft wood right? No? Yea. Yea? No."

Everything has to be close to perfect for this to work. Spend a good deal of time getting everything just right and don't rush it. Half ass preparation often leads to failure. Once you have a set that you know works it's much easier to be successful next time.

I tried this once; a friend made the bow & drill it worked well. Good presentation Donny - looking forward to your book.

Thank you for pointing out that the spin stick should be hardwood or that both spin stick & “board” should both be softwood. Almost all tv survival shows don’t mention whether the components should be soft or hardwood. Also, a friendly suggested requirement: if you are in the wilderness, your dog is equally necessary for fire building, so he/she can watch your back & keep you company! ;-)

My brother, I used to hate your clips in my heart, maybe because I was jealous, maybe because I thought you were trying too hard. Im sorry, I see now that you just know and are trying to help, thank you for showing us cool things like this. Its very valuable and I appreciate you and I was definitely wrong AND your skills and channel are very cool, I have a healthy envy for your skill
