I have watched survival tutorials and shows. And read manuals all my life and this is the best tutorial I have ever seen on this topic.. you think to cover important nuances that I imagine others simply don't think of .. very good I'm really digging your channel

I've been working through your tutorials and I realized something. You're like the Bob Ross of survival. So encouraging and inspiring.

I watch this with the full knowledge I will never be in the wilderness for more than two hours.

Great video! I've been doing & teaching bowdrill since 92, and I still get a little thrill when an ember pops out.

Fandabi dude is highly skilled. I am more excited about the hiking staff that I crafted inspired by one of his recent videos than from a mountain bike I bought that costed more than a car.

Your demonstration is excellent . Good advice using the thumbnail test for the hearth wood and the limpet shell bearing block is epic . The Old ones carried a water proof skin bag with hearth wood, spindles, bow, cordage, birds nest materials, stone knives and drills . Mine is made from elk skin and waterproofed with bear fat . The bag works well for starting a fire on and can hold 4 liters of water .
It's great to see you healthy, happy and teaching . Thanks for the lesson and all the best from Apache land New Mexico .

Seen a few of these demos including by the Big Names but none matched the quality and fulsome detail of this wee session. Nicely done sir! Duly subbed.

Great video, I love making fire by friction.
I went for a walk along the Clyde a few years ago with a friend and the instructor that ran the Bushcraft course I went on (Patrick McGlinchey, great bloke very talented) When we stopped for lunch Patrick made me light the fire using a bow drill.
First though, he made me stick my hands into a pond for a minute or so (It's worth pointing out it was late November, and the pond was frozen)
Just to prove it could be done.
Managed it.
I was very pleased with myself.

Best explanation of creating and using a bow drill I have seen. Thanks Tom!

Tom, That is the best instruction that I have seen for friction fire with a bow. After watching your videos, I see that you are a great teacher. I also wave my tinder bundle in the air so that I do not get smoked out at the end before ignition.

Very impressed with this professionally presented instruction video. You my good sir are a world class survival instructor and im definitely thinking of taking one of your courses. As a beginner munro bagger with limited bushcraft skills and a man with a passion about scotland and my celtic roots i find your videos very informative. You are what i would class as a TRUE scotsman. Stay safe mate. ATB JJ ⛰️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🙏

Really enjoyed these tutorials Tom especially concerning the "Scian Dubh" and the "Scottish Dirk".
The quote about the "Master failing more times than the student has tried" is going on a T-shirt!.

It's been a point of pride with me for years that I never use paper to light a fire outside but I've always had to use a lighter or matches, this will be great to try.

I already made a fire like this with the items of a friend.
But I think you explained the deatails much better and I like how you talk.

Didn't wanna watch a 24-min-video right now but you kinda hooked me up.

Thx for the upload, definitely trying this :D
