The joints of the hand are very small and are often the most vulnerable to loss of motion and deformity due to Rheumatoid Arthritis. Since the joints of the fingers are small, gentle and safe exercises can be very effective at improving function.

Exercise 1: Flex knuckles, also known as MP flexion
Exercise 2: Hook fist, also known as Claw
Exercise 3: Straight fist
Exercise 4: Full fist

I have advanced RA joint/tendon damage/deformity/loss of motion. So far one thumb surgery. My PT always leave me wanting more & feeling hopeless when they say there's nothing more they can do for me. Michelle is so explicit & seems to know hand damage, even severe is not hopeless, As I am struggling to follow along, I cant bend some joints, or straighten others & I'm almost crying but not from pain, she makes it okay, saying just do what you can. My future doesn't feel so bleak, .I wish I could see her in person. Thank you Michelle for strengthening my hands & heart. :)

Hi! I have fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis and this is the first time I've ever even known about hand exercises. I did them all and I will continue to as I feel these will be great for me. I didn't realize how bad my joints have become until now. Most of these were fairly easy but some joints seem to be worse than others. I had trouble doing the straight fist, not full fist and my fingers were trying to cramp up as well as my left wrist grinding and not moving in the circular motion like you show. I have a few fingers that didn't want to cooperate because they were broken/fractured around 20 years ago. Thank you so much for this! I will update my progress after doing these daily for awhile. Thank you so very much, I was diagnosed with RA, AS, about three years ago, have been on medication and back exercises. Only for the past two months, it has been very difficult for my hands. Your video has made my day! I will visit this once a day as you mentioned! Thanks for taking me through this ever so patiently!
