Is Keto Safe?

In this video I'm going to be going into the most common reason that people object to the ketogenic diet on safety grounds... and importantly, trying to find out whether there is actually any evidence to support these.

It's a long video, but there is lots to talk about! Hope you like it!

Hi Dr. Dann, I am 62 years old and was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease and was devastated at age 60. The Irish Parkinson's Society sent out a link to a Neurologist in New Zealand who has studied the positive effects of a keto diet and fasting. His name is Dr. Matthew C L Phillips. I watched his webannair and decided to follow his 'Metabolic Therapy Program'. Nine months and my tremor is gone, I don't fall so no more fractures. I've lost loads of weight and my GP said my bloods were a miracle. No more fatty liver or pre diabetic. Cholesterol down. I feel amazing and happy that I am in control of this.
Thanks for all your great videos. It really helps that you are a 'real' doc and so is he. People around me support my keto lifestyle without the worry of a 'quack' leading me to a quick death! Una

Been doing strict keto for almost 3 years already, along with OMAD. I don't imagine myself changing something that only brought me benefits and improvements in every way.

I was technically a diabetic. High cholesterol, high blood pressure. Virtually everything in my blood test was the wrong way. 1 year of keto "ALL" numbers went to normal. Insulin resistance is the single biggest health problem in the world today. Keto is a life saver.

Great video. You always have the most direct and honest videos on this subject with no pop culture silliness. I think you are likely to be actually saving lives with real medical information more than any govt organisation I can think of. Thank You for leading the way.

I've just recently started looking into the ketogenic diet and I've watched many if not most of your videos (as well as some by others like Dr. Jason Fung) and when I mentioned my interest in this to some friends, one of them suggested I watch a video from a podcast called Maintenance Phase that voiced some serious concerns about the safety of this diet (though I'm not sure I'd classify the tone of the podcast as all that serious). After listening to it I felt that many of the concerns had already been addressed by some of your content and that of some of the others I've been watching, but this remarkably well-timed video addresses all of the concerns pretty much point for point. Thank you for putting my mind at ease on what is literally my first official day on this journey.

Keto all the way baby. Hypertension gone in a few weeks, chronic elbow pain gone, migraines gone, extra weight gone, I got progressively less hungry and now I only need to eat one meal per day. Never felt better, I'm sticking to keto for life 👍

I am prone to kidney stones, they've landed me in hospital twice. I have not had any incidence of kidney stones whilst on a keto diet over the last 4 years. My husband is a kidney transplant recipient due to an autoimmune disease and subsequent misdiagnosis destroying his kidney function. He's been keto for over 2 years and his body size has gone from obese (due to steroids and illness) to an ideal weight according to the NHS BMI calculator or in other terms a 44 inch waist down to 32 inches. His bloods are done every 3 months and his kidney function has remained stable throughout. That's our personal experience of course and as stated in the video people differ in their own biological responses.

My LDL and total cholesterol went down with the ketogenic diet. My doc couldn’t understand it and said he’d never seen that level of change with diet alone. Made me happy.

I had all my life difficulties with my kidney due to a shrunken kidney which got removed in 2011. My gallbladder was removed in 2014, I add ox bile to my supplements due to this. I started with Keto at September 28, 2019 cause I was diagnosed with a NAFL and after 2 month of deep research. I was a T2D since 1998 at that time too. I never encountered the Keto Flu not once cause I added electrolytes from the start. I found in the time up to December 6, 2019 that I ate lower and lower Keto approved veggies, berries, seeds and nuts and ate more protein and saturated fat. I incorporated intermittent fasting from the start. I became full blown Carnivore December 6, 2019. Before I started Keto/Carnivore my kidney function was at 45% now still on Carnivore my kidney function increased to a whopping 70%.
Well I heard if one has issues with the adrenal gland to supplement with adrenal since I don’t like the taste of organs like kidneys I supplement with beef adrenal capsules.
I reversed the NAFL and my T2D is in remission too, lost over 40+ kilogram, decreased my prescription drug intake from 10 daily to 1 which is a blood thinner due to a genetic defect in my red blood cells cell membrane my red blood cells are extra clingy and I can get thrombosis easily.

It is so good to hear from you! I listen to your cousin Dr Ken Berry who is quite knowledgeable. But it is also to see your point of view. I hope to see you more often. But I realize that you live a busy doctor's life. Thanks again for your excellent videos.
