Never thought about using a ruler or a board with holes That's a good idea especially for longer rows. Thanks for the tip. There is no food sold in a grocery store that taste home grown.

This is a great short! I'm in central indiana. Summers get hot FAST. If youre like me, you have to start your spinach slightly differently. If you're using bloomsdale, it goes to seed in the heat really quickly...so start early March, even if it wet or cold. You can also start it in October the fall before, but it needs a little protection from super cold or winter wind. Or choose a variety that can take more heat and plant in late March or early April. I love Space spinach.

It’s a common misconception that you need to space spinach to the recommended spacing. I sow my rows densely and let the strong outcompete the weak. Using this approach you are guranteed to not have “holes” in your row. I’ve also never covered my spinach with row cover as it’s the only thing in my garden that doesn’t get attacked by pests. This short is one of many that have someone who genuinely lacks experience telling you what you should and should not do.

When should you use straw over seeds and a little compost? Fo you recommend a heating coil?
