And don't forget to recommend New Zealand spinach as a heat loving alternative to regular spinach! It LOVES the summer heat and just goes crazy if you let it. One plant can give you dozens of leaves a day once it's established

Thank you I have been a gardener for a long time, probably longer than you. And every time I watch one of your videos, I get at least one new idea. I just bought an 8x12 greenhouse I am filling it up already. I have plans to grow lots of spinach, kale, swiss chard Tatsoi and more all winter. Thank you.

Spinach does well here in the West of Scotland. Through the summer I grow mine along an east facing wall so it only gets the morning sun from 4 am to 11 am and is protected from the remote possibility of harsh afternoon sun. The east facing wall also allows me to extend the season for my peas which also prefer cooler conditions.

Thanks for naming 2 slow to bolt varieties. Last year, I got 2 baby leaves per plant in a container then it bolt. Because I forgot about it, that planter is now a thick carpet of 1 inch seedlings. We received over an inch of rain yesterday so they have a chance of surviving unless the baby bunnies find it.

My favorite spinach is Space, as you mentioned. It all survived in my zone 6b garden this last winter without any cover whatsoever, and produced lots and lots of leaves before starting to bolt just the other day. I sowed more of it just over two and a half weeks ago, and I actually could start harvesting baby spinach leaves right now, really a fast grower. Will have to try some of that Red Kitten spinach this fall, looks delicious!

Timing is crucial when growing spinach in zone 5. Last frost date is April 21 and it froze that night. 3 weeks later and it was 85 and has stayed hot. My lettuce is still doing fine but once again a big spinach fail! :-( In Kansas we really don't have spring anymore. It goes from Winter to Summer. It's been that way for a while now. I will have to try growing this fall under cover. Thanks for the tips.

At the opening of your video I saw some yummy Miners Lettuce poking up through the spinach. (It's the plant that has sort of a heart shaped leaf with a little flower in the center.)

I like Purslane. I bought seeds for a cultivated variety but you can also eat the wild type that grows in damp soil and is considered a weed--but isn't invasive.

I bought seeds for the Miners Lettuce. I let it go to seed and have lots of volunteer plants the next year. "Saltwort" is a good Japanese green. These are all early spring plants.

I like Pinetree Seed Company. They have all sorts of strange seeds for sale--like the Saltwort. The packets are smaller so they don't cost as much.

Love me my spinach. I am going to try some under protection this year and see how it goes. The winters can get pretty brutal here in central Minnesota. Nice guitar work too by the way. :-)
