Losing weight after 60 is difficult and belly fat can be particularly stubborn!

It sneaks up on you in our 60s, even if you have been doing all the right things to stay healthy! In this video we talk about the reason belly fat is so prevalent as we get a little older and what we can do to get rid of it! This is without any strict or crazy diets and instead just 5 tiny habits that we can tweak.

There is not denying that as we get older our estrogen starts to decline and that our metabolism does slow down. But there are things that can have a very positive effect on countering these natural processes. In this video, I will also mention several ways to minimize stress, which is a great contributor to the production of cortisol which encourages the growth of belly fat.

Let's discuss how to lose weight at any age! It really is possible!

Are you trying to control your belly fat in your sixties? What things do you incorporate into your lifestyle to minimize its presence? Please leave your comments in the section below and help other Sixty and Me sisters deal with this annoying but not seemingly inevitable challenge?

Hard to loose.... Discipline every day.... for me better to have nothing sweet at home... The problem I have: I do not eat one peace of choco or cookies, I eat one, two, tree or more....
Much love to you Margret and thank you💐🏵️💮🌺☀️💫✨🌟⭐🍀🌹

I’ve incorporated using a meditation app and daily deep breathing exercises. Since I’ve always loathed “exercise” but enjoyed dancing, it’s been a special treat to discover the Body Groove program. The focus is on movement and finding the joyous connection between your body, mind and spirit and the music.

Sometimes I think we as women worry too much instead of accepting ourselves as we are. Life really is too short!!

Thank you, Margaret. Yes, everything you talked about is easy and simple. The only tough part is getting ourselves to actually do what we know to do. Here are four things that have helped me tremendously. #1 I don't bring junk food into my house. If I don't see it, after a while I lose the urge. #2 I focus on eating 5-9 fruits and vegetables (only 2 fruits for women and 3 for men) per day. #3 I average only one meal out per week. Most restaurant food is high calorie, fat, salt, etc. The Good News is...Because I eat well most of the time, I know I can add in extras whenever I want. Consequently, I never feel deprived. #4 Exercise. Yes, exercise. Usually the fat isn't the whole problem. Poor abdominal muscle tone can be a culprit too and it's something exercise can improve.

Reminder... Saturated and Trans Fats, which are solid at room temperature, should be limited. Unsaturanted and Monounsaturated Fats, which are liquid at room temperature, are good for us. Check labels.

And, isn't it strange that as our estrogen production slows, we become fatter and fat in turn produces estrogen. There must be a reason we're made this way, but I can't figure it out... Another example of our complicated nature.

Thank you. Nothing new...haha, but a great reminder. note to self! I am 73 and have a great struggle with all of these things. Depression life long. And of course, exercise helps depression. But hard to get off my fanny...All the best for the new year

I was a Veterinary Technician for 24 years. The stress, the lack of sleep was palatable. I retired last year, and it has taken its toll. It was a stressful job, and stressful to let go. I still can't lose weight.

I’ve been following Weight Watchers for almost a year. I’m now 45 pounds but stopping Daily wine has helped reduced belly fat.

Carbs are good for you if they are unrefined such as whole grains, potatoes, other vegetables. It is the refined flour, sugar, processed foods (ie potato chips, cookies, cakes). You do not need to worry about fats there is adequate fat even in oatmeal . When you eat plants you will get all you need, enjoy peas, beans, lentils, vegetables, whole grains and some fruit. Eat the way God created us to eat, be kind to yourself your health, the animals, and the planet.

Hello Margaret, firstly, you look beautiful in that gorgeous top!
All of the things that you mentioned are so true. Trying to stay healthy is an ongoing process and sometimes it is easier than other times.
I don't drink alcohol or eat carbs, including pasta at home anymore. They are a treat and I save them for when I dine out, usually about every week and a half.
I am 72 and I resigned myself to the fact that I have choices and most of the time now, I make the right one, at least at mealtime! 🤣
Thank you for another great video.

Suggested reading for women is Dr. Jason Fung. His books explain it so well. Also, Mindy Pelz explains more for the women how fasting works at various stages in life.

At almost 57 Intermittent fasting has been key for me. I eat between 11 and 6/7 at night. It is healthy for your body to fast and it works. No diet just eating properly and being consistent with IF.

Thank you Margaret for suggestions and also for suggesting that maybe it’s time to embrace who we are as women over 60 or 70 or 80 and just be thankful and happy that we made it this far through all the muck. I’m not happy with my body at all if I compare it to myself at 30 or 40 or other 30 or 40 year olds. But I have lots more knowledge and wisdom and I have many more happy memories during the years since. Stay happy ladies. A smile is worth more than gold any day to one who is in despair.

Regarding bread - According to my doctor, switching to whole wheat doesn't do much in terms of nutrition or fibre unless the bread is a whole grain bread. I choose this option now and find it is much more satisfying and filling, thus making me less hungry as well as getting more fibre.

Yes, “Simply walk.” Just stand up and go out the door. Go to the end of the driveway today. Go to the corner tomorrow. Go out the door every day until it is a habit. You don’t have to walk 5 miles day 1. Just stand up and go walk. If you are waiting for “motivation”, realize there is no magic, only the decision to stand up and go out the door. You can do it. Good luck!

Great tips. Stress can be a variety of things: exercising beyond your threshold, rushing all the time to get all the errands done, piles of papers that grate on your mind all day etc. I was just reminded today to get rid of anything that is stressing you. I started looking around and those cute things that I have to move and dust all the time, ugh!
My the way...that blouse is beautiful on you. That color is just right. Thank you for your work.

Happy New Year, Margaret! And thank you so much for the inspiration you bring to us as followers, whether it is delivered in the form of this encouragement, reminder, challenge ... or just in your day to day "activities" and explorations. You give so much and i for one, appreciate and value you as one very classy "real" Lady. Warm hugs from chilly Canada, and living close to the Cdn. foothills, just north of Calgary! 🥰🇨🇦
