If you want to skip the talking and go straight to the techniques, go to 3:10.

I like the way she speaks. I breathe deeply and pay attention to my breathing a few minutes at a time and for several times a day. It helps with my anxiety and it calms me down. It also has helped me with sleep.

Thanks for making this video, Meghan! I'm a HUGE fan of deep breathing. During my 60-day health anxiety recovery I discovered the power of not only deep breathing exercises, but also an overall greater mindfulness of my breathing patterns - at times when I'm feeling anxious, or not!

To overcome anxiety it's key that you not try AVOID or RUN AWAY FROM uncomfortable thoughts, feelings, sensations and situations - lest you validate the fear in your subconscious mind, empower the anxiety, unwittingly ensuring it comes back, stronger and more frequently than ever.

So, I made sure to practice deep breathing ALL THE TIME. Eventually, I improved my breathing skills (yup, breathing is a skill!) to the point where I was breathing more deeply ALL THE TIME, reducing my baseline level of anxiety, while raising my ability to respond to acutely challenging situations when they arise.

the alternating nostril breathing has been SO helpful for me thank you! i just did it today on my break at work when it was all getting too overwhelming and it really helped me slow down, even made me feel a bit sleepy

As a person who would have dismissed this concept as mumbo jumbo a few years ago and I now have given it the due respect it deserves. And I have found this video very informative as well as instructive, thank you for making it so clear.

These are great! I find that when I'm having panic/anxiety what calms my racing heart most is to inhale for 5 sec, HOLD for 5 sec, and then breath out for about 8 sec. The holding really seems to force me to focus on that and not on anything else and the forced longer exhale does wonders for slowing my heart from pounding. Love all your videos Meghan!

Deep breathing is so beneficial for your mental health. It is even a form of mediation. I made a video talking about this actually.

With a calm mind and less stress your body naturally gears itself for success, fights off diseases and you begin to feel a better sense of well being.

Such a good thing to do, recommend it daily!

I’ve been having a couple attacks since October thinking it was just my blood sugar. After going to the doctors and getting every test under the sun it was determined that I’m actually having panic attacks. Apparently my aunt went through the same thing when she was my age. As much as that sucks, it’s nice to see that there are plenty of videos online and a community to help you get through it. I’ve never encountered something so scary, so I’m glad to know I’m not alone in this

I got worked up tonight over something, I have pretty bad anxiety. I have good days and bad days and I'm on medication but sometimes it flares up bad. Sometimes it feels that I can't breathe, even though my breathing is good. I get so wound up. It took a few times to try a couple of these exercises but I actually feel a little bit better thank you

Thank you very much for your video. I have been having constant panic attacks, shakes and shortness of breath and just watching your video really helps me. I have been watching this for the past 2 nights in a row now, I find you very relaxing. I will continue to watch this whenever I'm feeling anxious. I love your positive attitude in all your videos. :)

Thank you so much. I've been going through the worst days for the past 3 days just questioning everything due to the difficulty of college. I've been feeling so overwhelmed and stressed to the point where it has affected my sleep, my eating, and prevented me from enjoying what I'm learning (I love to learn). I really appreciate this. I'm definitely just going to take the time everyday and do this and some meditation. Thank you :)

I read, and it seems to apply to me, that the body shuts down one nostril at a time. So at any one time, one nostril always feels blocked and only works by being helped open.
Lovely video

Thanks for adding alternate nostril breathing for stress management. This is called Pranayama/Anulom-vilom in Sanskrit and it is highly beneficial and can be used to go into a meditative state quicker. thanks a lot. For Holistic well-being you really provide great content @Meghan Livingstone. God bless you!!🙏🙏🙏

Taking a pause to do 3 deep breaths like this always re-centers me and calms me down. Thanks for this.
