Which Is The Best Adapalene Gel? (Differin v La Roche Posay Effaclar)

Over the counter retinoids come in all shapes and sizes, and some are better than others. Adapalene is great retinoid option over the counter (in the US), and the 2 most popular products containing this ingredient are Differin Gel and La Roche Posay's Effaclar. In this video, I discuss the pros and cons of each, and give my recommendation as a dermatologist on which is the best one.

I think Differin is expensive than La Roche Posay.
La Roche Posay is $36 for 45g, whereas Differin is $13 for 15g.

Adapalene was supposed to become legal in Switzerland in the coming few years. La roche posay might sell their product in the Swiss market hopefully. Stock up when visiting/traveling to Europe to reduce the price gap and you can have the best of both worlds. Hopefully…if it’s legalized. The EU overall though is planning to ban retinol over 0.3%.

But for the same AMOUNT differin gel is slightly more expensive than the la roche posay gel. Just saying. That being said considering that adapalene + clindamycin gel I am using now (otc here) is like 24 ish bucks for 30ml, I would prefer to buy either in a heartbeat.
