So helpful! I grew up doing all those “wrong” exercises and now have back problems. This’ll help me get back in shape the right way :-)

My PT has taught me these and it's helped my lower back and hip pain tremendously.

All the bad exercises are literally the only ones I’ve been doing for years and weighted. Nice😃

That makes so much sense.
I could always do single leg lift, but double leg lift or Russian twist hurt so much

After thirty years of hardcore training my vertebrae got so discombobulated. So I changed from heavy training to more functional training and it works and some of the exercises that are bad for the lower back are still bad. Thank you for updating with those exercises that are terrible for lower back. Peace!

I have such terrible lower back issues and watching this I realize I have done everything wrong for years. I had a trainer who often had me on an incline bench with the weighted plate or doing full incline sit-ups with a weighted ball with I would throw to him and then catch before the next full sit up. Lots of Russian twists with weights. Yikes! My poor spine. Thanks for another great video.

Getting to know Dr Stuart McGill's work is life changing. I have read his Back Mechanic book and I do the Big 3 exercises daily with daily walks. Having 3 bulging discs and one ruptured in lower back, I was depressed, knowledge I gained really got me hope in my recovery.
I feel way better

Great insight, thank you. The crunch alternative was a bit weird though. If one day you can explain the 1st alternative a bit more, that would be great 👍🏻

Bob and Brad, you are geniuses! I couldn't figure out why I had lower back pain for the rest of the day, then I saw this video. No more trunk twists for me! Thanks guys for the info.

The suggested safe exercises are great rehab and beginner exercises! However, they are quite easy and might not give the training benefits that many are seeking. Would love to see the safe exercises you recommend for the athlete or somebody that has been training core for a long time. Maybe an idea for a new video?
