When working your abs it is important to make sure that you are using exercises that get you great results, and avoid causing stress on your body. That is why I am going to give you 3 of the best abs exercises and 3 of the worst abs exercises. Now to get abs that show, you need to have a workout program and you need to focus on your nutrition. Let’s get started with the exercises in this video with the 3 best and worst abs exercises for men over 50.

Best Exercise #1: BICYCLE CROSS CRUNCH. Lay on the ground, and put your hands on the side of your head. Alternate bringing your knees to your elbows, bring the elbow to your opposite knee. This is a great exercise to work your obliques as well.

Best Exercise #2: SHOULDER TAP PLANKS. Get in a push up position and hold the plank position. You are then going to go back and forth tapping your hand to your opposite shoulder.

Best Exercise #3: BAND CRUNCH. This is similar to doing a cable crunch that you might do at the gym. You can pick as much resistance as you want. Have the handles by your head, stick your butt out, and crunch bringing the elbows down to your knees.

Worst Exercise #1: STANDARD SIT UP. Most of the time people put their hands behind their head, and yank their head up. This is bad for your neck and your lower back.

Worst Exercise #2: LEG RAISE. You are basically doing a reverse sit up with this exercise. You feel a lot of stress on your lower back and hip flexors, the goal should be to work your abs.

Worst Exercise #3: DUMBBELL SIDE BEND. People try to use this exercise for their obliques, but it only works a small amount of your core. There are better exercises to help you get better results.

I've bought your "Fit after 50" Program. I have to admit, there have been several different little-known tweaks to the "standard" exercises that I use to do as a younger man.
During the Pandemic, I invested in that program. I was able to go at my own pace to implement these subtle little changes to ease my body getting older. I invested in both styles of resistance bands, and a generic 5lb set of dumbbells. ( I want to stay fit, I do not have to prove myself to anyone at this age) In the short time of 1-1/2yrs. I have made great progress. These little videos that you are releasing now, emphasize what you talk about in your "Fit After 50" Program. Mate, when you are doing the first “bad” exercise, the classic crunches, behind you it looks like a full on bar on the kitchen counter !

Watched your video yrsterday on building bicepts 3 best ones ones. Went to my gym at 5 AM & did all 3 using only 25 bumbells. Wow my bicepts are really felling it now 11 hrs later still sore. Thanks.

does it matter if you do abs before or after, lets say training another body part and should you do multiple sets or 1 long set

I’ve been trying to work my best at home with my dumbbells. I believe I should increase my weight with my dumbbells! I want that real lean look with abs! Work out hard before winter comes here in Pennsylvania. It sucks. I’ve been lifting since January every day!

I appreciate this video. I am turning 72 in a couple months. I have been doing the lag lifts. Now I understand why my hips have been getting tight and sore. I've also been doing the planks 1 Min at a time and sit ups with arms crossed and hands touching shoulders and lifting bent legs at the same time. Could these also be causing tight hip flexors?

Mark...a little confused on this one. You indicate leg lifts are useless, but you promoted it as a reverse crunch in your A-40 Core Set video (1-1-16). You also listed the Dumbbell Side Ben as ineffective, but it is one of the exercises in the Fit After 50 program?! Just curious...I watch this type of stuff...and have a master spreadsheet on not only the Fit After 50 program...and my progress within, but also on some additional videos you've done that I also incorporate. BTW turned 68 yesterday...any plans to do a Fit After 60 program??...hope so...btw you should look into Torrobands...they are much better than the typical $30 bands!

I’ve had 2 A/fib and heard I have 20% clogged arteries. I want to get fit and stay fit. I go walking while fasting. Lift weights and do some abs exercise. Still struggling! My weight is around 177.
