This is probably the best deadlift video I've ever watched (and I've watched many). It's unbelievable how much this has changed my own deadlift experience, as well as how much it's helped me with the part that I struggle with most (committing to the initial lift). Alan: you're wise far beyond your years, and a goddamned inspiration to anyone looking to better themselves.

However, one criticism, and I've been sitting on this one for a while: I call hijinks on your spurious attribution of the "Train Untamed" voice to the Marine Corps Drill Instructor. I know a bad "Shagrath from Dimmu Borgir" impression when I hear one. Other than that you are an American treasure.

Love ya, man. Here's to your continued success.

Last Saturday I had this guy coming up to me to tell me how I should deadlift lmfao, hips shooting knees locking up before he stood up, he set the bar in line with his toes it was a complete mess. After that he told me I should watch YouTube how to do the movement lol.

Funniest part, he came up to me saying "I've had countless injuries in the past"

Literally yesterday I was wondering how to correct my deadlift technique and I think this video is perfect for helping me out. Given the fact that's uploaded today is like a blessing to me

For me, this one is the best of your deadlift tutorials. I had a lot of troubles with deadlift setup focusing on 5 steps and so on, but this falling back and pulling yourself into position was the key to both getting tightness in my back and harmstrings and getting the right balance. I was like a, b, c were correct but at the end my deadlift as a whole sucked, because I was leaning forward trying to keep neutral back, not to squat the deadlift, not to move the barbell and so on. I was focused on details but lost the big picture. When I lean back I can easily get into position and tighten my back, so for me this leaning is the key issue here. Without it is impossible to get the other things correct because your balance is wrong and you can’t make up for it with big weights.

Answer to my prayers. I did deadlifts yesterday and I had someone deadlifting behind me during my rest periods. I'm developing me form and the person behind me already knew what he was doing. I was doing reps with incorrect form (my back is telling me my form was incorrect just like my mind was by the soreness I feel in my lower back ). Rushing during my sets was a big problem as the correct form I'm trying to attain isnt in my muscle memory yet. So going back to the drawing board and listening to said advice is what I need. My main problem is the way I'm pushing off my legs and bringing my back up. Also wasn't keeping my chest out during some of my reps. Thanks for the vid Alan!!

That's such a helpful cue for me when you said we're not trying to pick the bar up; we're just trying to stand up with it. Thanks and keep up the good work! You're a great teacher, & you're videos are very informative, straight to the point, and always hilarious.

the association that you made with the squat regarding how we try to become.1 with the bar made ALL THE SENSE IN THE WORLD!
