5 Deadlift Tips for TALL Lifters

The other week, I received a question about tips for taller lifters in the deadlift. I'm by no means a super tall guy, and this subscriber is 6' 4", so his deadlift certainly looks different than mine.

However, I do think are certain deadlift tips that can be exceptionally useful for this specific athlete. Plus, these are often tips and areas of deadlift form improvement that I'll use and look at with clients.

Five useful deadlift tips mentioned in this video for taller lifters include:

0:00 Like and Subscribe!
0:59 Tip 1: Check Hip Height
2:00 Tip 2: Use the Quads
3:10 Tip 3: Slow Down the Pull
4:25 Tip 4: Mind the Arms
6:06 Tip 5: Work With Your Anatomy

It's important to note that NOT all of these deadlift tips will be applicable to every lifter and we need to contextually apply them based on deadlift form gaps we're experiencing.

Hopefully, if you're a taller lifter trying to perfect the deadlift, at least some of these deadlift tips can be useful for your needs!

As a 6'5 dude, deadlifting definitely felt very uncomfortable until watching this video. Thanks a ton!

6'4" guy here. This was helpful. I'm good about maintaining a flat back, but I always wondered if it was bad to have my back nearly horizontal to the floor when the bar is traveling up my shins. I'm just glad I'm not the only one struggling with this. Thanks man.

Thanks for this video. It does my heart good to hear you say that barbell movements aren't a tall person's friend. My coach said that the deadlift is the easiest of the lifts technically, but it's the most difficult for me to execute. I will definitely try your tips. Good video as usual.

I'm 6'7 and with really long legs and not that long arms so I've pretty much been skipping deadlifts in my workouts but seeing these great tips makes me wanna go for it again.

6' 2", not super tall or anything but my legs are very long in proportion to the rest of my body. Thank you for the video

You are a life saver. I used your tips and this was the first time I don’t feel my lower back breaking. I am 6ft 4. May God bless you. Earned a new subscriber!

OMG THANK YOU!!! Finally someone with actual tips and not just a 10 minute video that ends with “ya so basically don’t deadlift/squat” I am definitely going to record my next lifts and send them to you dog. Thank you!

I’m 6’3 with hella long legs. I’ve always had a struggle keeping my back straight on deadlifts, as I have to set my hips past parallel in order to keep it straight. I didn’t think about the shin angle tho, which might help with that. I’ll try it next session. As always, great video man.

This was so helpful! I’m 6’3” and all legs. I dance and deadlifts are so helpful in building power for jumps. I just always hated them because of the strain I felt in my back.

Hey Jake this video was really helpful for me. 183 here and I always felt my deadlifting form looked weird compared with others' until this video. I haven't deadlifted in a while but the max I've ever tried was 150kg. Today, I built up to a 140kg and it felt really comfortable with your tips. Starting with hips at a higher position was especially helpful and this is one of the first times I'm getting really little strain on my hip/sacrum region, which used to be a major problem for me. Thanks again man!

6’2”, always struggled with lower back tension deadlifting. Particularly the high hip height and knee bend I think helped me get the first part of the lift done in a more leg dominant way. Reckon my problem was overusing the back and core off the ground. Feeling good with these tips cheers.

This is a timely video. I am 5'10 and deadlifting is my favorite lift, however I do notice that I have to work the lifts differently to be more effecient. Very helpful!

Small people don’t realise how easy they have it when it comes to training

I’ve been deadlifting for a little while now. The tip with the lat engagement but allowing the scaps to be slightly more relaxed is a big one! I think it will vastly improve my lift. Might be the key I was missing. Thank you!

Wow thanks for this video. Ive been really feeling my lower back after heavy DLs lately and keeping my hips from coming forward early has really helped alleviate this. I havent seen a better video for tall lifters on YT
