I've gotten the "Keep doing what you're doing" response from two different bosses and realized that they were interested in their career more than mine. Just like you mentioned- It was certainly clear they were interested in their career more than mine. Only way to move forward from this situation is to find a new boss.

If your boss says "Keep doing what you are doing", then it is certainly a red flag and you need to make a good plan to move ahead in your career. Best of luck!

Sometimes a boss will say "just keep doing the job that you're doing" because you've caught them off guard with the question. Or they've been so busy dealing with a million other things that while if given a day to think about it they could supply a fantastic answer to you. So no, it's not always a red flag if they can't tell u what u need to do on the spot. Doesn't mean they wouldn't love to see u succeed and wouldn't love to be thoughtful before supplying an answer. So maybe ask your boss if they could spend a day or two thinking of things you can do to better yourself in your current role and then also ask them if you 2 can carve out some time for u to learn a stretch assignment, or a task for the next position above yours to prepare.

When your boss says he can't help..nothing in my hand he says. N then tells to contact his boss..what to do? They feel happy if you leave even if you meet all targets

Can you offer more advice for developing your position. I see a need within my company but I dont want to bring up the need to have it filled by someone who has an advantage, a degree rather than the experience within the company
