I enjoy the pleasure of making something rather than just getting it off the shelf. I bought some cream at knock down price and made my butter for half the price using Todd's butter recipe.

Thank you very much for taking the time to make this video! The tip about how to take out the buttermilk to prevent the butter from spoiling is great! I can't wait to try it, and won't be buying store bought any more. =)

It's cheaper to buy butter at our local grocery store but the list of ingredients will make your eyes hurt just by reading them. So much chemical goes into our food these days and most of what we need and consume have gone through heavy processing. Sometimes we don't care (I'm guilty) of what goes into the food we eat as long as it tastes great like our fave fast food store and restaurants. Our busy lifestyle made us this way so when I have the time I make an extra effort to make something homemade like butter, peanut butter, potato fries & chips, mayonnaise, tomato sauce etc. Plus it's fun to do, takes away my stress and gives me absolute delight when I see the end product, cook with it and serve to my family. If I mess it up, then I learned what to not do for my next attempt :) Reducing our consumption of "chemist's delight" stuff feels great so when there's an opportunity to avoid the extra unreadable chemicals, grab it :)

We made butter in kindergarten with a churn and spread it on graham crackers. Yum. Best memory from all my school years.

I did this in 5th grade!  we did a science project where the whole class made bread together and butter separately

When I was a kid my mother had to work and being the eldest I got detailed as head cook and bottlewasher (NOT a sob story because I ended up being fascinated by everything culinary, useful in future life.) I remember every weekend and holiday, beating cream till my arm ached and learning how to get it just to the right consistency before it turned to butter.

If I'd seen this video then, you can bet I'd have had a go at making butter. I did once make cheese; I let the milk ferment and hung it in a muslin from a tree in the garden ... AND it tasted good, AND I'm still alive lol :D

(You didn't really need to know any of this, did you?)

Excellent Todd. I just followed your instructions with a kenwood food mixer, about 2.5 pints of double cream (uk name) and a little iced water. It's turned out 27.5 oz of lovely yellow butter and 15 fl oz of buttermilk. I did the final washing-out of the remaining buttermilk by hand, softly squeezing the butter under a running cold water tap. Great videos.

This is the method I use every time, since watching this video. Thanks for posting! Can’t beat homemade butter! So easy and satisfying.

youll find if you use a wooden spoon for washing the buttermilk out its whole lot easier than a rubber spatula!

Made this with salt added to the cream, came out great! Tip if you want to make it:
If you're going to eat it without the doing the rinsing, don't be too generous with the salt! A little goes a long way. If you're going to do the rinsing, DO be generous with the salt! Because when you rinse the butter with the water, a lot of the salt gets removed with the water.

There is a restaurant, I see when I'm going downtown, it's called Bubble tea, and I always thought it was the name of the place, not the tea itself. I was happy to see this tea, because I am a tea, and coffee lover. Last night, my son and myself, went shopping, they have the holiday coffees and teas out now, well we must of bought 10 bags of coffee and maybe 15 boxes of tea. They have one that you don't see until Christmas          its       sugar cookie flavor, its by Celestial Seasonings.  Its so good, it has real sugar cookie flavoring it it, but no caffeine, so I sometimes add a it to my regular tea, and it taste like sugar cookie and tea even better if you sweeten it with brown sugar, or honey.  You can find it online year round, I'm pretty sure.

I had about 3/4 litre of whipping cream in the fridge that was getting old so I thought I'd give it a try. 25 minutes later I've got a gorgeous chunk of butter sitting in my fridge instead! This city girl is feeling mighty proud😎. Thank you!

Your breathing is pretty heavy Todd. Making butter seems like hard work.

I love heavy whipping cream! I use it for my Alfredo sauce, whipped cream, homemade caramels, and yes butter. And I use it in some soups as well like chicken and dumplings for example. Most ppl don't know how simple it is to make whipping cream which is the stage before you start to make butter is oh so good and cheap plus you can add as much sugar, honey, no sweetener, and salt if you like!

Thanks for showing how to make butter and to put herbs in butter is indeed awesomeness cuz you can make garlic butter, herb butter, plain butter, and sweet butter plus you can use the butter milk to make biscuits or add to other recipes lol.
