On July 30, 1964, American singer Jim Reeves, along with his business partner and manager, Dean Manuel flew to Batesville, Arkansas with his newly acquired Beechcraft Debonair. There, they were interested in viewing a property Jim was considering buying to possibly develop a resort. However, by the afternoon of July 31, storm clouds were forming, prompting Jim to check with the weather station for an update. As a pilot who relied on visual flight rules only, which require clear skies, Jim needed favorable weather conditions. Upon learning that storm clouds were already forming along his intended route, he decided to get ahead of the storm. A decision that ultimately proved fatal.

Jim Reeves’ Christmas album was a staple during the season in my childhood. He was a favorite of my parents. I’m now 63 years old far from Manila and still have his album here in Canada. I play his Christmas album the whole year which brings memories of my childhood, my late father and simpler times. Thank you for the music Jim Reeves and may you rest in God’s grace 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

My Mom was a major Jim Reeves fan. I was just a little kid when he died, but I remember Mom being quite upset by his untimely death. She had every record he ever recorded, and I grew up listening to his silky voice, accompanied by mother as she sang along. Good memories, sad events. 🇨🇦🖖🏻🇨🇦

He had the smoothest baritone i ever heard. 'He'll have to go' is still a classic. Thanks!

I have about 200 hours flight time in a Debonair, nice plane, high performance. The absolute MOST IMPORTANT pilot license to get is the INSTRUMENT RATING (leaning to fly in the clouds). I'm sorry he got killed. I'm retired AA Airbus Captain with 18, 400 hours. RIP Jim, I sure your music.

He is popular in Jamaica even today. Just last Sunday, I visited a Jamaican friend in Miami. As I walked in, I heard him playing Jim Reeves. Awesome.

My parents played his gospel songs every day. I can still hear his singing in my ears. It's so sad he died in the prime of his life.

'This world is not my home' is one of his gospel hits. Yesterday an old woman had everybody in tears when she sang it during a requiem in Kenya.
