Why Grief Will Help Us Survive Coronavirus

The world is now trying to make sense of a tragedy that makes no sense. A genome enveloped in protein has traveled across borders and oceans to tank economies, push millions out of work and school, and kill tens of thousands.

When a loved one dies, we know to grieve. But it’s just as important to grieve a loss of normalcy, says Dr. Patrice A. Harris, a psychiatrist and the president of the American Medical Association. “Anxiety is something that's talked a lot about, but I don't think that grief is talked a lot.”

This is important. Grief always comes before acceptance, and we will need to accept that our 'old normal' pattern of behaviors is what brought us to this place that we are at today. When we make space for the grieving process, we will then be able to move forward and make space for what will need to become our 'new normal'. Nothing is forever, except change.

'm living in America, and in America you're on your own. America's not a country. It's just a business.

I have worked doing Funerals for 25 years.

Man things have changed.

Alot of people are opting for cremation and if you have a funeral its limited to 10 people at the service. There are rumors that NO FAMILY members will be allowed at the service but that is not the case as of now.

I think words have meaning and I can’t believe more people weren’t aware of the possibility of a pandemic or what such a viral spread meant/means for “daily life” before hand. I was scared shitless watching those “SHTF” documentaries when I was younger, but I also have been prepping for years as well. This HAS shifted day-to-day; the sooner that’s acknowledged, the better!

I'm normally a homebody but now that we've been self isolating for 3 weeks, I want to go out. I won't because I'm not an irresponsible asshole but I do find myself wishing i spent more time with friends and loved ones before this happened. I just want to hug my mom and dad. I want to laugh so hard with my brother and sister that we can't breathe. I want to kiss and hug my nieces and nephews. I haven't seen anyone in my immediate family since March 1st which was my son's birthday. I just really miss them and I'm terrified of them getting sick. Today has been the hardest day so far. My 13 year old had a moment earlier because she misses her friends and I felt so sad for her. Her life is all about her friends at this age and they were ripped away suddenly and with no chance of saying goodbye to each other. My mom's birthday is Saturday and of course we can't see her so we are making poster boards that I'm gonna go put in my parents front yard tomorrow night so she will see them when she wakes up Saturday morning. I'm trying to keep some normalcy in my home but each day gets harder and harder. I hope all of you out there are doing okay and staying safe. We must work together to end this as quickly as possible. So many lives are on the line.
