They need to allow shorts to be added to monetization watch time. Allow them to be combined somehow for creators who use both but not one exclusively

My only issue with shorts is that even though they got lots of views and brought us so many subscribers, it didn't translate on more views for our long videos. So here we are, with 148k views on shorts, 2777 subscribers and 3787 hours towards monetization. I truly wish that the people that loved our shorts and subscribed to the channel would get suggested the long videos. The shorts are even extracts of our long videos! But seems like the algorithm is not working there.

For the question at 4:30:
I am a part of the YouTube shorts Creator Community run by Google themselves. I actually asked my Rep within YouTube about monetization if you are already monetized with 1K/4K are you good to be monetized if you start uploading shorts. Her answer was yes, as you mentioned earlier in the video the 10M/4K requirement is either or, not both. So if you are a long form creator who is monetized your shorts will also be monetized.

People say small creators don't have a chance but it's totally doable with consistency and pivoting based on data from previous videos.

The way I understand it, there won’t be an individual CPM per channel on the short ad payments. It’s just ONE GIANT SHORTS AD BUCKET. Then 45% of that is allocated to creators. And you and I get paid out of that based on how many views we have on shorts. Super simple. Make more shorts (or get more shorts views) and you get a bigger slice of that pie, but there’s only one giant pie for the entire world worth of shorts creators. Same “CPM” as everyone else on shorts, since ads are run in the shorts player in between videos and not attached to any particular video like they are on long form videos. I think it’ll be great. We’ll see though :) only downside I can see to that lump system is no targeted ads, so maybe less effective for advertisers, and maybe less pay because of it. Or maybe it’s so competitive for ad space that they pay a lot for that space (like a super bowl commercial). We’ll see how that part plays out too!

Thank you VidIQ, without your help I wouldn’t be where I am today in subs and views, I’m slowly making my way to 1000 subs and being able to monetize. But I don’t even care about that as I am happy that people like the videos I make! 😊

Second channels for shorts:

So when I upload shorts on my new channel, they barely get any views. But if I upload them on my main, they start gaining within their first hour. I'm not an expert, but here's what I think:
Since your subscribers are clicking on your shorts notification and possibly liking it, youtube will start to recommend it to ppl in the shorts feed, and you'll get views
Can anyone confirm my theory?

About the redundant content, I recall YouTube content inside studio suggesting using Shorts as teasers for longer forms within the channel. That might not quite work, but taking the highlight bits from longer videos works pretty well, apparently. I do repeat my content because it's information everyone should know everywhere (where my target audience is).
I was almost forgetting, about YouTube monetizing small channels which are not monetized, the simplest answer is try to advertise your content on your own budget to get the same results YouTube yields "for free" ;)

The 10M shorts views are actually crazy, but not imposible. I think we are going to have to upload both long and short content at the same time

10M views of short videos for last 90 days, I think you tube should adjust 10M views for last 180 days or 5M views for last 90 days because small channels may not reach to this criteria 😢

I'll be honest, I do hope us smaller channels are able to break into some form of small "starter" type of revenue... working on the growth, slowly but surely we'll get there. High hopes and positive attitudes!
