YouTube has just made a major change, and we are breaking down everything you need to know. We cover the latest monetization update which significantly lowers the barriers for smaller channels to start earning money. But, as always, there's a catch!

In this video, we dive into the 10 main ways you can monetize your content on YouTube, focusing on the popular ones such as Adsense, Channel Memberships, Super Chats, and more! We distinguish between brand-funded and fan-funded monetization methods and how this new update impacts both.

Brand-funded methods are ways creators earn revenue through collaborations, sponsorships, paid promotions, and ads. Fan-funded methods allow creators to earn directly from their audience through donations, memberships, and merch sales.

Now, if your channel has 500 subscribers, 3 public uploads in the last 90 days, and either 3000 watch hours in the past year or 3M Shorts views in the last 90 days, you can unlock fan funding for your channel! This means your viewers can directly support your work by sending you Super Chats, becoming paid members of your channel, purchasing your merch directly off YouTube, and more.

However, there's a caveat. This change doesn't grant you access to ad-revenue, a significant part of brand-funded monetization, which still requires the same qualifications as before.

I feel like that fan funding should already be an option for channels. Such as tips for videos. The only requirement should be not like a spam channel.

As far as a long overdue but still positive development as this is, YouTube understands that you get more flies with honey than vinegar (especially when it comes to crushing the competition) a lot of new creators still have a fair way to go.

I'm glad I looked around for multiple videos on this, quite a few don't mention the Fan Funding part of the 500 subs requirement. It's a great change, hopefully I can actually get there after being sat at about 440 for about 3 years or so, because the 1k barrier they put up ages ago just blew my confidence for this right out of the water and I've been struggling ever since.

My one nitpick is that couldn't we just get the same thing from something like a paypal link or what ever, because I assume YT will pinch a small percentage of anything done through their platform?

For a growing channel like mine I think its a heads-up for me to strive harder. YouTube is really creating opportunities for smaller channels to grow and earn. This is a great way to encourage its users

When I was more active on YouTube, and was way past requirements, I had applied twice to be approved for monetization and I had just never gotten a response back both times. I would apply and MONTHS (approx 8 to be exact) would go by w/o response before it would just kick back to “oh, your eligible to apply!” . I had no way of contacting YouTube for support so I just gave up. It was very frustrating. And now I’d have to start all over I’m just not as excited bc what if it happens all over again.
