Many people don't understand how the VA and Tricare fit together with Medicare. VA and Medicare are two parallel systems. This means that you don't HAVE to take Medicare is you exclusively use the VA for your healthcare.

Good set up an appointment to talk with your team and they called me and was very polite and informative...The main concearn i had was that I'm 100% P&T and also had Medicare Part A&B which i was paying for and didn't use so it was a waste of money at this point in my life....Anywho I was told that i could cancel Part B
till I was 65 and after that i wouldn't face a peanlty if i applied in the 6 month window .That was great news i went down to the SSA office yesterday and it was confirmed and i cancled the Part was required to pay for April and May but i would be cancled as of June have talked with several people both at the Medicare and SSA and was not told to your team i was able to word it in a way that i guess it made sense to them and it was confirmed.
Thanks
John

The VA drug benefit is excellent, but you can't take a prescription from an outside doctor directly and get it filled. A VA doctor has to order the medication.

Everybody enrolled in the VA qualifies for VA prescriptions. Some vets have to pay copays.

Finally answered me, do I have to have Medicare, or can I opt out since I am satisfied with just VA medical care. No. Lately also, if there might be a wait or other complication such that the VA is not prepared to help you, they send you to wherever your needs can be met asap. All veterans should check out benefits that may be applicable to each situation. So glad I did.

I use VA Community Care as I live 3 and a half hours away

100 percent disabled vets get free dental at the VA. Also, all service connected vets get vision and hearing too.

The only part that I was confused about was the ChampVA. You said permanently disabled... Is this at the 100% rating or any rating that is not expected to get any better? I am retired from the military, I have VA disabilities at the 100%, and also have Tricare Prime. Not old enough yet to get Social Security. I do live about 45 minutes away from my VA facility and currently get most of my medical and medicines from them but am married. What are my best options for me to have for my spouse who is younger than me?

A few things you got wrong .... True that most Veterans don't get dental care, vision and hearing IS included. You don't necessarily have to be honorably discharged to get VA health care, you qualify with a general discharge and there are a few other exceptions for folks with an OTH or even a BCD. Adding to what you were saying about having to drive a long distance to get to a VA facility, seniors should note: that even if you have an outpatient clinic close to where you live, it is very likely that clinic will not have all the services you need, so you may still have to drive a long distance to a VA hospital to get some services or surgery.

Would my husband still receive his SS retirement if he were to be admitted to a VA facility for a month or two for physical therapy?

Could things get more confusing. I'm 66 years old. I'm USAF 100 percent disabled vet through the VA. I also was rated disabled at the SSA. I live 15 mins from a VA hospital. I'm getting charged for medicare (around 180 bucks). I get a letter form the SSA and I'm now getting full SS but not through the disabled part (same money). I have Champus Select (disabled vet) through the DOD (no charge) for my dependent wife (and I guess myself by default). So, your saying if I cancel my medicare, my champus will cancel ? Just checking.

What you are saying about VA care is inaccurate. Take some time to study the VA community care program which negates the “driving an hour” issue.

If I am still working and on group coverage can I still use Tricare or does it not kick in until I get Medicare part B?
