I have always just pronounced the name the way it is written, 'ngoo-yen', cause I never had the chance to hear it spoken properly by a real life Vietnamese. But it sounds so much better pronounced properly! Especially the southern pronunciation sounds so cute and fun spoken out loud!

I am Chinese, in Mandarin “Nguyen”is called “ruan”

In Filipino (Tagalog), Nguyen looks like the word for today/now =“ngayón” so previously I used to pronounce it as “ngu-yen”.

One of my friend used to pronounce it Nugen as in Ted Nugent without T. Many Viets give up and just go with New-win. Interestingly in Korean (which is spelled phonetically) I noticed that they spell it as Ung-wu-Yen

But that's a very common name I see it's kind of like an India with Patel
