WHO CAN WASH MY SINS AWAY? ONLY THE BLOOD OF JESUS

TheElizabethashby

Hebrews 9:22 says that, “Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.”
God forgives sins on the basis of Jesus’ shed blood on the cross.

Daniel 9:9 says, “To the Lord our God belong mercy and forgiveness”.

All believers in Christ are baptized with the Holy Spirit regardless of water baptism or not. Of course people should but the physical act does not save. John the Baptist even said as much: "As for me, I baptize with water for repentance but He who is coming after me is mightier than I and I am not fit to remove His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire."- Matthew 3:11

What about the thief on the Cross? Jesus said today ye shall be with Me in Paradise. He wasn't baptized with water. Actually these people who teach this without even knowing it are teaching the Blood of Jesus wasn't enough.

I was thinking that, as a critical care nurse, I led some people to Jesus but had no way to get them baptized because they were on a ventilator and hooked to all kinds of meds. The most I could get as an affirmation of their belief was to have them squeeze my hand if they understood what I told them about salvation and wanted to believe on Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. I remember working in oncology right out of nursing school with a Dr. Lord (really). We would huddle in the halls and talk about who we had shared Jesus with. If someone accepted Christ, he would write it in the chart in his notes!! Great man.

1 Corinthians 1:17- “For Christ Did Not Send me To Baptize, But To Preach The Gospel-Not with words of human wisdom lest The Cross of Christ be emptied of its Power.” If water baptism saved, then you would think The Lord JESUS Christ would have sent Paul to do this with More emphasis and priority! 🤔

The penitent thief dying on his cross next to Jesus never had time or opportunity to get baptised. Neither did he go to purgatory after death. He simply recognized his own guilt and sin, acknowledged Jesus as Lord, and put his trust and faith in this, Jesus replied : "Today you will be with me in Paradise".

Redemption & justification in faith through Jesus Christ alone is a work of God. Baptism is a work of man commanded of Christians to be an outward demonstration of an inward change by the Holy Spirit. Therefore, baptism cannot and does not save anyone.

And this water symbolizes baptism that *Now saves you*
also, *NOT the removal of dirt from the body*
BUT the pledge of a clear conscience toward God.

Can't be more easier than this!

I disagree. Baptism also forms part of salvation. Salvation is a process it starts from REPENTANCE from dead works, you put your faith in Christ, you get baptise and you follow in the teachings of Christ, the Apostles and the prophets.  Nobody can prove that the thief on the cross wasn't baptise. Jesus Himself said, if you believe and you are baptized you will be saved.

Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Romans 6:3-5

LCMS believe we are saved by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone.

Sean, you've got to be kidding when you say that 1 Peter 3:21 is the only passage that seems to indicate baptism is for salvation! Most if not all of the passages on the baptism of the Great Commission connect it with salvation. And when I see people working very hard to explain each of them away, it is very revealing. Here are the passages which you no doubt will disagree with. But when one looks at them as a whole it reveals a pattern.

*Mar **16:15* And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.

*Mar **16:16* “He who has believed and has been baptized *shall be saved;* but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.

*Acts 2:38* Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ *for the forgiveness of your sins;* and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

*Acts 22:16* ‘Now why do you delay? Get up and be baptized, and *wash away your sins, * calling on His name.’

*Rom 6:3* Or do you not know that all of us who have been *baptized into Christ Jesus* have been *baptized into His death?*

*Rom 6:4* Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, *so we too might walk in newness of life.*

*Rom 6:5* For if we have become *united with Him in the likeness of His death, * certainly we *shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection, *

*Rom 6:6* knowing this, that our old self was *crucified with Him, * in order that our body of sin might be done away with so that we would *no longer be slaves to sin;*

*Rom 6:7* for he who has died is *freed from sin.*

*Eph **5:25* Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her,

*Eph **5:26* so that He might sanctify her, *having cleansed her by the washing of water* with the word.

*Col **2:12* having been buried with Him in baptism, *in which you were also* raised up with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.

*Col **2:13* When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, *He made you alive* together with Him, *having forgiven us all our transgressions.*

*Titus 3:5* *He saved us, * not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, *by the washing [a laver, or bath] of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit.*

Jhn 3:5 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is *born of water and the Spirit* he cannot enter into the kingdom of God."

*1 Pe **3:20* Who once were disobedient, when the patience of God kept waiting in the days of Noah, during the construction of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through the water.

*1 Pe **3:21* Corresponding to that, *baptism now saves you*—not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God for a good conscience—through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

You might disagree and try to explain away one or two, but it becomes clear that there is a pattern that connects baptism with the forgiveness of sins, our salvation!

The YouTube channel called the smart Christian has very good teachings on this topic just as well. We have even errors of praying for folks to get the holy ghost. Jesus baptizes with the holy ghost not us. We cannot give you the h.g. Way to handle this in the right manner.

This video has been an answered prayer about the whole baptism save situation. I too, had gone through the scriptures about baptism and concluded, it’s a type and shadow of the living water, who is Jesus Christ. And even John's baptism was a representation of the one that was to come who is the Christ. Thank you, for your due diligence, to produce material representing the truth. God bless you!

This video says that 1 Peter 3 contains the only verse that says baptism saves and attempts to use that as one reason to not believe it. Then tries to say that verses that say we are saved by believing show that baptism cannot save. This is just logically false. The author of this video presents a fallacy of false alternatives: that one is either saved by believing or by baptism. The truth of the Lutheran position is that the Word of God saves us and causes us to believe. The Word of God is joined to the water (as a physical element) or to a person's voice (which is also a physical element). The Word of God is God Himself and He is present where His Word is. This means someone who is baptized, or who reads the Word of God or who hears the Word of God can be saved. Notice that reading, hearing and baptism all require physical elements attached to God's Word. It's also true that God could come to someone in a dream and reveal that truth to them. There is not just ONE way to receive God's Word.

The antitype argument is a bad one. The water of the flood from Noah's days corresponds to the water in baptism. That means that the water in the flood was the antitype, not baptism itself. Nowhere does 1 Peter 3 say baptism is an act of faith. Where do you see that?

The text that says "not the removal of dirt from the body" is referring to what baptism is not. That is to say, it's not a bath to cleanse the outer flesh, it cleanses the conscience. You've interpreted this to mean that it is not the application of water that saves us. This is true that it is not ONLY water in baptism. It is water and God's Word (which is God Himself). This appeal to God for a good conscience is what faith does (see how in Hebrews 9 it is the blood of Christ that grants us this clean conscience). If it is the blood of Christ that gives us this clean conscience, then you better be getting Christ Himself from somewhere! Where does Scripture say we get Christ? Take a look at Galatians 3:27: For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. We receive Christ in baptism, not because it cleanses the skin with water, but because God promises to be there through His Word.

I hope none of this comes across as rude. But you have greatly misunderstood these texts based on pre-conceived notions that you have. You should try and use Scripture to interpret scripture. This is especially true when you come across words like "conscience", "baptism", "etc.

The reality is many people are confused about baptism. I pray that something productive will come out of all of this and it will make people think and dig for themselves. I went back and listened to your "edited" video and there are things that Long said that said are cause for concern. I love your work. And as another comment said keep up the good fight and don't let this distract you.
