Acts 22:16 - And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

Acts 10:47-48 King James Version (KJV)
Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord.

We need to be careful of the message that we're sending to new converts, false converts, Catholics, and the like about this matter. If water baptism is not a big deal, why does the Lord emphasize it and set the example himself? To me it is a command, and we ought to obey it. Now I understand that there are people who may have difficulty complying with it. The Lord has already provided for this lack. In our capacity as teachers, let's proclaim the Gospel like it is, repentance, water baptism, and confession of the lordship of Jesus-Christ then the Lord himself will perform the baptism in the Holy spirit. Oftentimes, the elaborate around this issue as it relates to salvation creates too much confusion, and this could be harmful to many in the faith. Water baptism does not save, but it is an act of obedience/faith with profound spiritual significance and that should not be undermined. I'd encourage everybody who have the wherewithal to get baptized in water to do it without delay.

People who are hung up on water baptism being necessary in order to be saved are probably people who are relying on WORKS, and we know that our works CANNOT save us. It’s the Baptism of The Holy Spirit, that only The Lord can give, that saves us.

A lot of people in the comments don’t seem to know the difference between the baptism of the spirit and the outward expression of water baptism.

A pastor said it like this, when you finish all your credits you are considered a graduate (baptism of the spirit)
When you walk across the stage to get your diploma is the water baptism.

You were a graduate (saved) before walking across that stage

Amen, very sound biblical teaching, many will reject the scriptures you brought up out of pride in the flesh.

We are saved by Faith in Jesus Christ and if possible we get baptize as an act of obedience .

Thank you Corey for this I've been using the thief on the cross to help people understand but you bought new light even to that scenario with him dying after Jesus. Thank you Lord for revelation

I had a conversation with my grandma 2 weeks ago, cuz she's a catholic who believes that people who dont get baptize go to hell, so when I pulled up the bible and pointed to Acts : Acts 16:30-31 He then brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.”

After I told showed her this and told her that baptism doesn't save, she yelled at me and said my bible wasn't creditable because the only creditable bible is the catholic one....
All I can do is pray for her.

So if you were an Israelite living during Moses time and you said to Moses circumcision is not necessary and only a public display, what would Moses say?

Thank you for posting this! Many Christians don’t agree on the difference between salvation and baptisms.

There are many verses in the Bible talk about baptism. So it's not like baptism doesn't matter. Enough said.

If so, then it would be works. Ephesians 2:8 -9 clearly states that. Say by Grace through Faith alone. Roman chapter 4. Abraham believed God, and it was counted into him for righteousness. He did absolutely nothing. All he had to do was believe.

1 Peter 3:21 seems to say baptism saves.. i feel that God does work in baptism water and cleanses us and provides us with grace . I used to hold to a symbolic view only but it doesnt seem that way when you read scripture and the early church writings

Symbolism alone, means nothing.
Baptism is to weddings; as union is to marriage.

This great video talks about whether water baptism is necessary for salvation. The speaker argues that it is not necessary for salvation, and that faith in Jesus Christ is what saves a person.
The speaker provides several arguments to support his claim. First, he points out that there is no command in Greek to get baptized. Second, he argues that the Bible mentions several examples of people who were saved without being baptized, such as the thief on the cross. Third, he points out that Paul says in 1 Corinthians 12:13 that the identifying marker of every believer is the Holy Spirit, not baptism.
The speaker also addresses the argument that Jesus was baptized. He says that Jesus was baptized to fulfill all righteousness, and that his baptism was not the same as the baptism that is required for salvation.
In conclusion, the speaker argues that water baptism is not necessary for salvation. He says that faith in Jesus Christ is what saves a person, and that baptism is simply an outward expression of that faith.
